Job Description – REEFER TECHNICIAN

       

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

 

Repairing and preparing reefer containers for the purpose of safely shipping perishable cargo.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

 

 Note: The following list of Key Performance Areas and job activities are not exhaustive. Independent Container Repairs (Pty) Ltd may instruct the employee at any time to perform additional duties or responsibilities, which fall within the ambit of the job, or in accordance with operational requirements. 

 

• Conduct pre-trips and inspection report on reefer containers:

• Pre-trip test conducted by running through an automated test +- 4.5 hrs., carrying a physical pre-trip technical inspection according to the clients / shipping lines criteria and recorded on a Manual PTI Inspection form. Once pre-trip tests and inspections are successfully concluded, PTI sticker is completed and adhered to the machine end of the reefer. Daily PTI test report schedules, manual inspection and out movement reports submitted to the Reefer dept. by the technician. 
• To make sure all technical issues are recording on a job cards.
• To prep and calibrate containers for STERI shipments.
• To monitor full reefer containers.
• Special treatment services - Conducting special preparation services on behalf of the client according to the specific preparation required documented instructions and procedures. Depending on the type of service, either a PPECB inspection or a job card to be submitted to the Reefer dept. for checking against service requests and for processing. 
• Raising the production area out movement instruction schedule. A row move out schedule is the be drawn up including all relevant information as per the UCD move out instruction procedures, copies submitted to Reefer dept. supervisor, dept. clerk operations manager, and depot manager as per the instructions on the standard ICR Out Movement list.  This is a daily production requirement to be concluded and submitted to all relevant parties within half an hour of the last required service completion. 
• Standby Callouts. Being on standby for call-out to client’s containers to conduct emergency repairs or on depot to conduct production requirements. Job cards of work conducted on vessels to attain vessel stamped and endorsement. All instructions to conduct call-out work is given and followed up by the dept supervisor. Job cards for call-out work are raised by the technician and submitted to the dept. clerk at the commencement of the next shift.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

 

Grade 12 / Matric

 

The following experience is preferable: 

Artisan qualified in Refrigeration or Electrical trade. 

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence.

 

 

NUMERICAL SKILLS:

 

Ability to apply concepts of refrigeration, high and low current applications.
