About the Role

The GL accountant is responsible for the overall accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of accounting transactions within the assigned billing/accounting systems. Additionally, the GL accountant will be responsible for maintaining carrier commissions processing and related royalty payments.

The Day-to-Day

GL Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries for revenue, accruals, and reconciliation. 
• Assist in audits and monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings.
• Backup for daily bank entries recording.
• Create monthly administrative corporate invoices for all associations.
• Create monthly claims processing invoices to carriers.
• Monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned GL accounts.
• Monthly MOAA marketing allowance tracking and reconciliation.
• Monthly marketing recoverables invoice creation and submission to carriers.
• System-specific monthly bank reconciliation.
• Assists with monthly closing process including financial analysis. 
• Collaborating with other departments to complete accurate records and provide accounting support.
• Undertake ad hoc projects as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Commissions Responsibilities

• Maintain daily commission log.
• Collaborate and assist team members (onshore and offshore) to ensure accurate and timely commission processing.
• Establish/update billing system mapping for new carrier programs.
• Review client contracts and maintain accurate royalty structure.
• Research and reconcile commission discrepancies.
• Prepare production and reports requested by other teams, including Finance and Client Management.

Requirements

• Prefer a Bachelor degree in Accounting or another relevant field of study.
• 2-6 years’ experience working as a GL accountant.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Effective problem-solving skills to identify and correct financial discrepancies.
• Technical accounting and software skills.
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
• Understanding of accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to work in the Urbandale, IA office 4 days of the week, with Friday's being remote.
