Description
This position assists in the maintenance of municipal airport facilities and grounds.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Performs preventative maintenance tasks, specifically: maintaining the airport perimeter fencing, safety areas, airfield pavement, aircraft aprons, airport facilities, and the runway; and reports major repair, maintenance, or safety issues to supervisory.
- Mows airport grounds; trims shrubbery and maintains landscaping; including applying pesticides and herbicides.
- Operates radio, reports weather and runway conditions, and issues NOTAMs to pilots and flight services.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with storm water regulations.
- Maintains the terminal building in a professional and businesslike manner; general custodial responsibilities to include cleaning and maintenance inside the building.
- Greets visitors and provides information and assistance.
- Refuels planes and charges to appropriate accounts; drains and samples fuel from fuel tanks.
- Tracks inventory, orders fuel and supplies, balances fuel and hangar rental accounts, including invoicing and payments.
- Coordinates with tenants regarding use of airport facilities.
- Notifies the FAA, law enforcement, and/or fire department during critical situations.
- Performs related duties.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Airport Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include FAA regulations, EPA regulations, OSHA regulations, state regulations, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

- Skill in the operation and maintenance of a variety of airport equipment.

- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to a high school diploma.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
