The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient, Nights supports overnight pharmacy operations at Euclid Hospital, ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely preparation and distribution of medications for hospitalized patients. Working as part of a collaborative inpatient pharmacy team, this caregiver performs medication preparation and dispensing, sterile compounding and IV preparation, inventory management, medication replenishment, and overnight medication distribution throughout the hospital. Additional responsibilities include operating and troubleshooting automated medication dispensing technology, including the medication carousel, responding to pharmacy calls and requests from clinical staff, and supporting efficient overnight pharmacy workflow. This role offers the opportunity to practice in a close-knit community hospital environment while benefiting from the resources and support of Cleveland Clinic.
A caregiver in this position will work a night shift on a 7-on/7-off rotation. Shifts are 8:00pm–6:30am Wednesday through Saturday and 8:00pm–7:10am Sunday through Tuesday. Weekend and holiday coverage are included as part of the rotation. This position is based at Euclid Hospital with no routine float expectations.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Follow established policies and procedures to support functions essential to the operations of the pharmacy department.
- Perform packaging, preparation and distribution of medications, inventory control and pharmacy record maintenance.
- Pursue completion of the Cleveland Clinic’s School of Pharmacy Technology program in the first 12 months of employment.
- Prepare medications (selection, labeling, repackaging and non-sterile compounding).
- Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.
- Appropriately use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
- Maintain good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program per the student handbook.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma/GED
Upon hire, must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National HealthCareer Association (NHA).
Upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.
Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds.
Basic computer skills
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Six months of hospital experience
- Successful completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 18 months of hire preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
