How would you like to serve as a strategic advisor to the SVP for Downstream R&D ?

To partner with the SVP Downstream R&D to drive strategy, improve performance, and enable effective decision-making across the organisation. The Business Advisor demonstrates experience, energy and influence to drive progress against organisational priorities, with significant focus on the safe and successful delivery of Downstream R&D transformational programmes and on connecting strategy to value-led execution across the businesses we serve.

Key accountabilities

  • Act as a trusted thinking partner to the SVP, helping develop strategy, priorities and key decisions, and ensuring sharp connection between Downstream R&D strategy and downstream business value.
  • Develop and maintain the Downstream R&D priority architecture, including monthly priority updates from VPs and TLT pre-reads for the EVP.
  • Support the SVP in delivering strategic projects and help in efficient execution of projects.
  • Run the Downstream R&D performance and reporting cadence: priorities tracking, EPR cycle, monthly team brief content, and follow-through on actions from LT and steering committees.
  • Support SVP organisational goal-setting in focus@bp using delegate access, and cascade goal-setting requirements to VP’s.
  • Maintain executive-level transparency on portfolio performance, value delivery, and operational risks (including cyber, product quality, security and safety).
  • Provide senior programme oversight for Downstream R&D transformation programmes.
  • Set the Downstream R&D LT operating rhythm: agendas, pre-reads, safety moments, cyber moments, Pulse / Focus@bp updates and priorities management; convene the SVP, VPs and key advisers around the right priorities at the right time.
  • Lead Downstream R&D contributions to Technology Team priorities, including coordination with EVP BA and other SVP BAs on shared priorities, performance reporting and processes.
  • Coordinate scheduling and content for "Keeping Connected" calls, team briefs and townhalls.
  • Draft and quality-assure SVP communications, including monthly team brief messages, leadership announcements, staff communications and transformation comms.
  • Handle senior collaborator engagement for the SVP across Technology, businesses (Refining, Fuels Marketing, bp bioenergy), Procurement, Finance, Comms and Digital.
  • Lead preparation and execution of external engagements.
  • Represent the SVP in the BA community across Technology ensuring alignment and shared standard methodology.

Capabilities and experience required

  • Deep bp experience (or equivalent) with strong exposure to Technology, Fuels Product Development, Refining, Bioenergy, Innovation, and/or Digital Science.
  • Prior experience in Downstream Technology or Operations.
  • Familiarity with bp's R&D portfolio and downstream businesses.
  • Experience with portfolio and performance tools.
  • Track record of leading complex multi-stakeholder programmes in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator, able to influence senior partners and build high-performing cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage transformational projects safely and at pace, with a clear value-led approach.
  • Comfort using science, data and digital capabilities to support business strategy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, including drafting executive-ready papers.
