Description
Leasing Consultant – Affordable Housing
Location: Rochester, NY | $19–$25 per hour + Significant Leasing Bonuses
Are you a natural salesperson who knows how to connect with people, build relationships, and close the deal? A well-established affordable housing operator is seeking a Leasing Consultant in Rochester, NY to help lease available apartments at a large affordable housing community.
This is an exciting opportunity for a sales-driven professional who wants to earn a competitive hourly rate plus significant performance-based leasing bonuses. The immediate priority is to lease approximately 40 available apartments, creating substantial earning potential for someone who knows how to generate leads, follow up with prospects, and turn interest into signed leases.
Unlike traditional market-rate or luxury apartment leasing, this role focuses on income-qualified affordable housing and serves residents with a range of needs, including individuals with disabilities and those experiencing housing insecurity. Patience, compassion, professionalism, and strong sales instincts are essential.
Previous apartment leasing or affordable housing experience is not required. We're more interested in your ability to sell, your attention to detail, and your willingness to learn.
What You'll Do
- Drive Leasing Results: Generate leads, engage prospective residents, follow up consistently, and convert qualified prospects into leases.
- Market Available Apartments: Advertise available units on platforms such as Facebook Marketplace and Zillow to attract prospective residents.
- Build Referral Relationships: Work with local agencies and community organizations to connect eligible individuals with available housing.
- Qualify Prospective Residents: Review income requirements and supporting documentation to determine eligibility for affordable housing opportunities.
- Coordinate Applications: Guide applicants through the leasing process, collect required documentation, and help move files through the compliance intake process.
- Support Digital Leasing: Use an evolving digital, AI-assisted intake platform to help streamline application processing and documentation.
- Deliver Excellent Service: Communicate with prospective residents and applicants professionally, patiently, and respectfully throughout the leasing process.
What We're Looking For
- Excellent communication, follow-up, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when handling applications and income documentation.
- Basic math skills and the ability to learn affordable housing income limits and eligibility requirements.
- Patience, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain professional boundaries while treating residents with dignity and respect.
- Comfort working with individuals who may have mental health challenges, disabilities, very limited incomes, or housing instability.
- A dependable work history and a genuine interest in building a long-term role.
- Residence within approximately 30 minutes of Rochester, NY.
Affordable housing experience is a plus, not a requirement. Candidates from healthcare, nursing, social work, mental health, human services, retail sales, customer service, or other relationship-driven sales environments are encouraged to apply.
Why You'll Love This Opportunity
- Competitive pay: Earn $19–$25 per hour, based on experience.
- Significant bonus potential: Earn additional compensation tied to leasing performance, with an immediate opportunity to make an impact by leasing available apartments.
- A chance to break into property management: Bring your sales skills and learn affordable housing leasing on the job.
- Meaningful work: Help connect income-qualified individuals with housing opportunities that can make a lasting difference.
- Supportive leadership: Join an established affordable housing organization with an engaged team and processes designed to support leasing and application management.
