Job Description:
The IT/OT Intern will support day-to-day operations while gaining exposure to multiple areas of IT.
The first year of the internship will include rotations through all eight functional areas of IT. Year two will focus on three selected functional areas, while years three and four will focus on the intern’s preferred functional area of IT.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Service Delivery: Provide first-level technical support to end users by troubleshooting basic hardware, software, access, and connectivity issues. Monitor assigned tickets, tasks, and user feedback, and escalate issues appropriately when additional support is needed.
- Endpoint Support: Assist with laptop, desktop, mobile device, printer, conference room, and peripheral setup, deployment, and replacement activities.
- Infrastructure: Support routine system maintenance, software installations, patching activities, and equipment lifecycle tasks of servers, storage and network equipment.
- Cybersecurity and Identity Access Management: Monitor and protect endpoints, infrastructure and applications and data from malicious digital attacks and unauthorized access. Assist with user account setup, access requests, permissions, and related documentation in accordance with company policies.
- Applications: Support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of enterprise applications by resolving issues and assisting with system enhancements.
- Project Management: Collaborate with IT team members and business users to understand business needs, support project activities, and provide responsive, professional service.
- IT Financial Management: Assist with processing, tracking, managing, optimizing, and reporting on technology spending, including procurement, vendor relationship support, and contract management for technology purchases.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Required: Current enrollment in an associate, bachelor’s, or graduate degree program in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
Preferred: Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework; prior internship or work experience in a technical support environment; or relevant coursework, certifications, or credentials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, productivity software, networking concepts, and common IT support practices.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, M365, collaboration tools, ticketing systems, endpoint devices, and basic troubleshooting methods.
- Basic understanding of software development, programming fundamentals, databases and application support.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, organization, and follow-through skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to non-technical users.
- Ability to follow instructions, ask appropriate questions, manage assigned tasks, and work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn, adapt, accept feedback, and work in a fast-paced manufacturing and office environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation, quality service, confidentiality, and safe work practices.
An equivalent combination of education, coursework, technical experience, and demonstrated aptitude may be considered.
This role requires logical thinking, attention to detail, professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while learning new technologies. Interns must be comfortable using technology, communicating with users of varying technical skill levels, protecting confidential information, and following established safety and security procedures.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move between office, IT, and manufacturing support areas as needed.
- Frequent use of computers, phones, mobile devices, and standard office equipment.
- Ability to visually inspect equipment, read screens and documentation, and enter information accurately.
- Occasionally lift, carry, or move IT equipment up to 25 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, maintain focus, communicate professionally, and escalate issues when appropriate.
Work Environment:
The IT Intern will primarily work in an office setting, with occasional visits to manufacturing or warehouse areas for support tasks. The environment is collaborative, professional, and focused on learning, service, safety, and continuous improvement. Interns may attend team meetings, training sessions, and project discussions and may support real-time IT service needs. When working in production or technical areas, the intern must follow all safety requirements and site procedures.
