Job Description

This senior finance leader will serve as the primary finance partner to the Proprietary branded consumer and small business credit card segment within Payments. The role will provide strategic and financial leadership across the full credit card P&L, translating business performance, customer economics, market dynamics, and investment choices into clear recommendations that drive sustainable growth and attractive risk-adjusted returns.

The leader will partner closely with Product, Marketing, Risk, Credit, Operations, Technology, and other enterprise stakeholders to shape portfolio strategy, improve performance, and maintain strong financial governance. The position requires deep credit card finance expertise, strong executive communication, and the ability to influence cross-functional decisions in a complex and rapidly evolving payments environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead finance strategy, planning, forecasting, and decision support for Proprietary consumer and small business credit card products.
  • Own financial performance management across revenue, balances, net interest income, interchange, fees, rewards, marketing, credit losses, fraud, servicing, and operating expenses.
  • Develop annual plans, rolling forecasts, long-range outlooks, and scenario analyses; identify key drivers, risks, opportunities, and management actions.
  • Build and evaluate business cases for new products, product refreshes, rewards propositions, pricing changes, marketing offers, digital capabilities, and other strategic investments.
  • Apply rigorous financial modeling to assess return on investment, net present value, payback, customer lifetime value, cohort economics, and risk-adjusted returns.
  • Partner with Product, Marketing, and Distribution leaders to improve acquisition, activation, engagement, spend, revolving balances, retention, and relationship deepening.
  • Partner with Risk and Credit leaders to balance growth and profitability with credit quality, loss expectations, underwriting strategy, and established risk appetite.
  • Evaluate portfolio performance by product, customer segment, channel, geography, and vintage; recommend actions to improve growth, profitability, and capital efficiency.
  • Establish measurement frameworks for strategic initiatives and test-and-learn activity, including clear baselines, attribution methods, performance targets, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Prepare concise, executive-ready insights and recommendations for senior business and finance leadership, clearly communicating trade-offs and required decisions.
  • Maintain strong financial controls, data governance, documentation, and reporting practices that support accurate, timely, and auditable results.
  • Lead the adoption of AI-enabled solutions to simplify processes, automate routine activities, enhance predictive and analytical capabilities, and improve the speed, quality, and business impact of financial decision-making.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing finance team while fostering accountability, collaboration, curiosity, and strong business partnership.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 15 or more years of relevant financial management experience.
  • Eight or more years of leadership or management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex financial planning, forecasting, performance management, and strategic decision support.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Deep knowledge of consumer lending, payments, and credit card economics, including net interest margin, interchange, fees, rewards, acquisition costs, credit losses, fraud, and servicing.
  • Experience supporting proprietary consumer and small business card portfolios and related product, pricing, marketing, or distribution strategies.
  • Advanced financial modeling and valuation skills, including discounted cash flow, NPV, IRR, sensitivity analysis, scenario planning, and cohort or customer economics.
  • Strong understanding of FP&A, portfolio profitability, investment prioritization, balance sheet management, and risk-adjusted performance measures.
  • Experience partnering across Product, Marketing, Risk, Credit, Operations, Technology, Accounting, and Data or Analytics teams.
  • Experience with rewards economics and liability methodologies, including earn, redemption, breakage, expiration, and product-level allocation.
  • Strong command of financial systems, analytical tools, dashboards, and large data sets; experience with Essbase or similar planning platforms is beneficial.
  • Excellent executive communication and influencing skills, with the ability to simplify complex analyses and frame clear choices for senior leaders.
  • Proven success managing multiple priorities, operating effectively through ambiguity, and delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • MBA, CPA, CFA, or other relevant advanced degree or professional designation is preferred.
