About the role
Turn complex enterprise data into trusted products that help teams make smarter decisions and create better experiences for customers.
As a Data Engineer in our Data, AI, Loyalty and Analytics team, you’ll build scalable data pipelines, analytical datasets and models that support reporting, self-service analytics, advanced analytics and emerging AI use cases. Working with technologies including Python, dbt, Apache Airflow, Snowflake and Power BI, you’ll solve meaningful data challenges in a large and evolving environment.
We’re building the best...Our team makes it happen.
You’ll join a collaborative team that values practical thinking, sound engineering and continuous learning. With support to test ideas, develop your capability and take ownership, we’re Inspiring you to give it a red hot go.
What’s involved
This is an opportunity to shape how trusted data is created, managed and used across Bunnings. You’ll:
- Build and maintain reliable data pipelines and curated datasets for reporting, analytics and AI initiatives
- Design dimensional, semantic and other analytical models that make data easier for teams to understand and use
- Develop reusable transformation logic using Python, SQL, dbt and Apache Airflow
- Improve data quality through automated testing, monitoring, documentation and clear lineage
- Optimise queries and data solutions for performance, scalability and cost
- Translate evolving business requirements into practical, maintainable data products
- Partner with BI developers, data scientists, analysts, architects and product teams to deliver connected solutions
- Contribute to peer reviews, technical discussions and shared engineering standards
- Help create consistent business definitions while balancing flexibility, governance and delivery pace
You’ll have room to influence how we work, strengthen our engineering practices and develop solutions that support both team members and customers.
About You
You enjoy turning ambiguity into clear, useful solutions. You’re comfortable exploring complex problems, asking thoughtful questions and working with others to reach the right outcome.
You take pride in building data products that people can trust, but you’re also pragmatic about delivering value and improving things over time. You value quality, reuse and clear documentation, and you’re keen to share ideas through design discussions and peer reviews.
The team works across technical and business disciplines, so you’ll thrive by communicating openly, listening to different perspectives and making complex concepts easier to understand. A can-do approach, curiosity and willingness to keep learning will help you make a strong contribution.
What you’ll need
- Around five or more years of experience in data engineering or comparable practical experience
- Strong hands-on capability with Python, SQL, dbt and Apache Airflow
- Experience building data pipelines and analytical solutions on cloud platforms such as Snowflake
- Knowledge of dimensional modelling, Data Vault or other contemporary modelling approaches
- Experience developing semantic layers and business-friendly data structures
- Understanding of data governance, quality, lineage and metadata principles
- Familiarity with source control, CI/CD, automated testing and engineering practices
- Experience working in Agile, cross-functional product teams
- A relevant qualification or equivalent industry experience
- Exposure to Power BI, retail data, machine learning or AI-enabled analytics would be useful but isn’t essential
