Nature of Organization:
The UW Department of Rehabilitation was founded in 1957 by Justus F. Lehmann. Since then, our dedicated faculty and staff have provided the highest quality patient care, education and research in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Physical Therapy Student Assistant will play a key role in assisting with patient care in the acute care and inpatient rehabilitation settings, and ensuring smooth daily operations in the physical therapy gym. The PT Student Assistant will assist therapists with patient treatment including: transporting patients to physical therapy treatment areas, assisting patients before, during, and at the conclusion of physical therapy treatment sessions, and assisting therapists with transfer and gait training with challenging or complex patients. Other responsibilities include preparing, maintaining, and cleaning treatment areas and equipment, and ensuring treatment areas are properly stocked with supplies. The PT Student Assistant will also assist the PT Medical Assistant with general support to the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of proper body mechanics and lifting techniques. Ability to satisfactorily complete Rehabilitation Aide Competency Evaluation and job training.
