Start your IT career with RoarTech

Are you interested in computers, enjoy solving problems and want to build a career in IT?
RoarTech is looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Desktop Support Technician to join our team and learn how professional IT support works in real-world school environments.
You’ll work alongside experienced technicians, helping teachers and school staff get the most from their technology. From fixing everyday Windows and Microsoft 365 issues to preparing laptops and supporting classroom devices, you’ll gain practical experience while completing your apprenticeship training.
You don't need to know everything before you start. We’re much more interested in your curiosity, attitude and willingness to learn.

About RoarTech

RoarTech provides IT support to schools and academy trusts across Shropshire and the West Midlands.
Our technicians help schools keep their technology working reliably and securely, supporting everything from laptops, desktops and printers to Microsoft 365, cloud services, networks and classroom technology.
This is an opportunity to learn from people who work with these technologies every day and to develop skills that can form the foundation of a long-term career in IT.

What you'll be doing

As your knowledge and confidence develop, you'll be involved in a range of hands-on IT support activities, including:
  • Helping resolve everyday Windows, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, printer and connectivity issues, both remotely and at school sites.
  • Logging and updating support tickets, asking clear questions and keeping users informed throughout an issue.
  • Preparing and configuring laptops and desktops, installing approved software and checking devices before they are handed to users.
  • Learning how to support Microsoft 365 accounts, users and groups, following approved identity and access procedures.
  • Assisting with Microsoft Intune, including device enrolment, Windows Autopilot, application deployment and device checks under supervision.
  • Supporting iPads, Chromebooks and classroom technology.
  • Helping maintain accurate device, asset and equipment records.
  • Following agreed processes to test changes, record results and obtain approval before changes are introduced more widely.
  • Escalating issues when you need support and learning from experienced members of the team.
As you develop, you'll gradually take on more responsibility and become confident handling routine support tasks independently.

What we're looking for

You don't need previous professional IT experience to apply.
We're looking for someone who:
  • Has a genuine interest in IT and technology and enjoys finding out how things work.
  • Has a basic understanding of Windows, common computer applications and computer hardware.
  • Enjoys solving problems and isn't afraid to ask questions.
  • Can communicate clearly and patiently with people who have different levels of technical confidence.
  • Takes a methodical approach to problems — following instructions, checking their work and explaining what they've tried.
  • Is reliable, organised and willing to take responsibility for agreed tasks.
  • Is honest when they make a mistake or don't know something, and understands the importance of asking for help before making an unfamiliar change.
  • Is keen to learn and develop new technical skills.
  • Can attend the agreed workplace, apprenticeship training and customer school visits. Travel arrangements will be discussed during the recruitment process.
Don't have professional IT experience?
That's absolutely fine.
We'd love to hear about things you've learned, built, fixed or experimented with — whether that's:
  • Setting up or repairing a computer
  • Helping family or friends with technology
  • Completing an IT or computing course
  • Building a PC
  • Troubleshooting a technical problem
  • Working on a personal technology project
  • Volunteering or helping others with IT
  • Learning about networking, cloud technology or cybersecurity

The following would be helpful but are not required:
  • An IT, computing or technology-related course or qualification
  • Experience setting up, upgrading or repairing a computer
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365
  • Experience using Apple devices or Chromebooks
  • An interest in networking, cloud technology or cybersecurity
Apprenticeship entry requirements will be confirmed with the successful training provider.

Training & development

Your apprenticeship will combine hands-on experience, structured learning and support from experienced IT professionals.
You'll have dedicated time during working hours for apprenticeship training and learning activities, alongside practical experience within the RoarTech team.
You'll:
  • Complete structured apprenticeship learning and assignments.
  • Build practical IT support skills through supervised work.
  • Keep evidence of your progress and achievements.
  • Receive regular feedback and development support.
  • Have regular reviews with your manager and training provider.
  • Gradually take on more responsibility as your skills and confidence grow.
There may be opportunities to progress towards desktop support, second-line support and other areas of IT, depending on your performance, successful completion of the apprenticeship and future business needs.

Working in schools

Because we support schools, safeguarding, confidentiality and information security are an important part of the role.
You'll be expected to:
  • Follow RoarTech and customer school safeguarding and site procedures.
  • Protect account credentials and confidential school information.
  • Use only approved systems, tools and access methods.
  • Follow information security procedures.
  • Report security incidents or safeguarding concerns promptly through the appropriate channels.
The appointment will be subject to satisfactory references and appropriate pre-employment checks, including DBS checks relevant to the role.

Why join RoarTech?

This isn't just an opportunity to gain an IT qualification — it's a chance to start building a real career in technology.
You'll get exposure to technologies used by professional IT support teams, work with experienced technicians and develop practical skills in a supportive environment.
If you're curious about technology, enjoy helping people and want to learn how IT works in the real world, we'd love to hear from you.
