Pediatric Surgery Advanced Practice Provider - St. Joseph's Children's Hospital - Tampa, Florida

Position Overview

BayCare Medical Group is a physician-led medical group seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Surgical First assisit to join our Pediatric Surgery and Trauma team of 5 Pediatric Surgeons, and 2 Advanced Practice Providers located at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

 

The APP will work collaboratively with pediatric surgeons, trauma surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary care teams to provide comprehensive care for pediatric patients across inpatient, outpatient, perioperative, and trauma settings.

This role offers the opportunity to care for infants, children, and adolescents presenting with a broad range of surgical conditions and traumatic injuries while supporting a nationally recognized pediatric program dedicated to delivering exceptional patient- and family-centered care.

 

Responsibilites:

• Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, and patient assessments.
• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage pediatric surgical and trauma patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
• Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, radiologic, and diagnostic studies.
• Perform daily rounds on hospitalized pediatric surgery and trauma patients.
• Conduct pre-operative evaluations and post-operative follow-up visits.
• Participate in discharge planning and care coordination.
• Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding diagnoses, procedures, recovery, and follow-up care.
• Call responsibilities include 1:3 weeknnights and weekends

 

 

Additional responsibilites:

• First assist in the operating room as appropriate.
• Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice and credentialing privileges.
• Manage post-operative wounds, drains, dressings, and surgical follow-up care.
• Support consultation requests from hospitalists, emergency physicians, and referring providers.

 

 

The successful candidate will be a self-directed, self-start; team player able to support surgeons in the OR, and with inatient and outpatient service.  

Qualifications

Position requires: Florida licensure and certification PA-C or APRN.  APP must obtain and maintain Medical Staff privileges as required by the position.

• Surgical First Assist (APRN)
• Pediatric clincal experience is preferred
• Board Certification
