Job Summary: The onsite Chemical Instrumentation & Digital Control System (DCS) Engineer will have a dual role that will design, install, callibrate, and optimize complex automated Honeywell Digital Control Systems (DCS) and the Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) that monitor core process variables onsite at chemical manufacturing facility in Baytown, TX. Local candidates only, no relocation offered at this time.

In This Role, You will:
  • Configure and program the Honeywell Experion DCS system and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) systems, including software and hardware used to monitor continuous chemical manufacturing processes for 24/7 PSM facilities.
  • Design, implement, and test Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Safety Integrity Level (SIL) loops, gas detection networks, Pressure Safety Vavles (PSV), and critical interlock matrices to to mitigate safety risks and minimize downtime.
  • Use layers of protection analysis (LOPA) to evaluate safety hazards, potential risks, and layers of protection associated with systems onsite to identify scenarios that present the greatest risk and how best to reduce risk for the organization.
  • Diagnose and resolve system faults, hardware failures, and software bugs with a sense of urgency.
  • Oversee and maintain Honeywell Experion distributed control system (DCS) and safety information systems (SIS), monitor and address DCS alarms, propose safe strategic solutions to resolve issues.
  • Reduce process variability to improve product yield and optimize 24/7 chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoot/diagnose hardware failures, software logic bugs, drive process control and suitable software innovations in collaboration with instrumentation & electrical technicians, the operations team, process and PSM engineers.
  • Evaluate efficiency of the plant and recommend suitable software solutions to automate manufacturing processes that drive performance and plant production improvements.
  • Develop and review Safety Requirements Specification (SRS) and perform hardware Safety Integrity Level (SIL) verification calculations when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC 61511, chemical manufacturing industry standards, and all safety regulations.
  • Prepare progress reports, maintain KPIs related to systems testing onsite, support audit procedures, and provide necessary inputs for functional safety assessments.
  • Document and track failure rate dat, work closely with management of change team to update hardware verification calculations as needed.
  • Comply with all environmental, health and safety related best practices, policies, and procedures, including process safety management (PSM).

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Honeywell Experion DCS system, project management software, and Teams. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, instrumentation, control systems engineering or related discipline. 
  • Five years or more of experience in DCS engineering and/or an SIS engineer role with significant responsibility in chemical manufacturing plant or facility required. 
  • Demonstrated experience leading functional safety lifecycle activities onsite, SRS development, SIL verification, proof testing, MOC, and incident investigations. 
  • Previous experience working around hazardous chemicals in a process management safety (PSM) regulated facilities, and reading piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDS). 
  • Three or more years of DCS programming experience with a strong proficiency in Honeywell Experion software. 
  • Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP) or Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE) certification highly preferred.
