The Data and Evaluation Manager plays a critical role in supporting United Way for Greater Austin’s data, measurement, learning, and evaluation efforts across programs, initiatives, and partnerships. This position serves as a highly skilled individual responsible for data collection, analysis, reporting, dashboard development, and evaluation activities that support organizational learning and informed decision-making. Working collaboratively with staff and community partners, the Data and Evaluation Manager helps ensure the quality, integrity, and usefulness of data while identifying insights that strengthen programs and improve outcomes. What you’ll do:
- Support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs, coalitions, grants, and community initiatives.
- Collect, organize, validate, analyze, and interpret data from multiple sources to support decision-making and learning.
- Provide technical leadership, developing sustainable systems for data extraction and transformation. Develop and maintain technical documentation for the organization’s data infrastructure.
- Develop, maintain, and update dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that communicate key performance indicators and outcomes.
- Monitor data quality and troubleshoot data-related issues while identifying opportunities for process and workflow improvement.
- Support evaluation activities, including data collection, analysis, survey administration, and reporting.
- Conduct community-level research and trend analyses to support program planning and strategic decision-making.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and summaries that communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support grant applications, funder reporting, and organizational communications through data analysis and impact reporting.
- Develop and maintain data management systems, databases, surveys, and reporting processes to ensure data quality, integrity, security, and accessibility.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data-related challenges and develop sustainable solutions.
- Collaborate with program staff and partners to understand challenges, interpret fundings, and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Contribute to the annual reports, organizational dashboards, and other impact reporting initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support HIPAA and FERPA -compliant data governance practices, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee relevant software licensing, reporting requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with the Data and Evaluation team on projects that support the organization’s mission.
What you’ll bring:
- Three years of experience with data management, research, performance measurement, evaluation, continuous improvement, analytics, or related work. Experience in the nonprofit area or relevant public or private sector preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred in Early Childhood Education, Education, Public Health, Public Policy, Evaluation, Analytics, or related field.
- Strong experience collecting, cleaning, analyzing, synthesizing, and reporting both quantitative and qualitative data from multiple sources.
- Strong experience creating reports, presentations, dashboards, and data visualizations for diverse audiences.
- Strong proficiency with Excel, large databases, and data analysis tools required. Experience with MySQL, Python, Apricot, and/or Salesforce strongly preferred.
- Experience with Tableau or a similar visualization platform (e.g., DOMO, PowerBI) required.
- Preferred knowledge of early childhood, kindergarten readiness, child and family outcomes, educational systems (especially child care and pre-k), assessment tools, and community-based programs.
- Adherence to ethical and professional principles for data storage, access, and analysis.
- Experience working with Protected Health Information,HIPAA, and FERPA preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, tactical, organized, autonomous, and quick to build rapport.
- Ability to create and maintain effective workflows across multiple systems, teams, and stakeholders.
- Experience developing measurement frameworks, evaluation plans, performance management systems, and learning strategies.
- Experience using data to drive continuous quality improvement and organizational learning.
- Ability to thrive in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
