What Your Day Will Look Like:
As a senior transportation construction inspector, you will support major transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Portland metropolitan area. You will provide extensive field inspection oversight on roadway, highway, transit, bridge, utility, and multimodal transportation projects. You will be monitoring contractor operations, ensuring compliance with contract documents, specifications, safety requirements, quality standards, and agency regulations. You will be a key liaison between contractors, project managers, owners, and design teams to ensure successful project delivery. Salary: $70k-$120k
What You'll Do:
- Perform daily inspection of transportation construction projects, including highways, roadways, bridges, transit facilities, utility relocations, traffic control, and ADA improvements.
- Verify contractor compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, environmental requirements, and agency standards.
- Inspect and document construction activities related to earthwork, grading, paving, concrete placement, drainage systems, structures, traffic signals, illumination, and utility installations.
- Review contractor schedules, work plans, material submittals, and testing results.
- Monitor and document quantities for pay estimates and progress payments.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, testing laboratories, utility providers, and agency representatives.
- Maintain detailed daily reports, diaries, photographs, and field records.
- Identify and document non-conforming work and assist in resolution of construction issues.
- Conduct field measurements and verify construction staking and layout activities.
- Attend progress meetings, pre-construction meetings, and contractor coordination meetings.
- Support change order documentation, claims avoidance, and project closeout activities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety policies, environmental requirements, and traffic control standards.
What You'll Need:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 8+ years of construction inspection experience on transportation infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience with ODOT construction projects and/or TriMet transit projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- ODOT Standard Specifications
- ODOT Construction Manual
- TriMet design and construction requirements
- Oregon Standard Drawings
- MUTCD and temporary traffic control requirements
- ADA compliance standards
- Experience documenting contractor quantities and preparing inspector reports.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, standards, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic construction management systems.
- ODOT-certified Construction Inspector.
- Experience working as Lead Inspector or Senior Inspector on transportation projects exceeding $10M in construction value.
- Experience on light rail, bus rapid transit, transit facilities, or major roadway reconstruction projects.
- Knowledge of construction materials testing and quality assurance processes.
