Description

You are

An experienced federal contracts attorney and strategic legal advisor to Business and Sales leadership in shaping and executing Accenture Federal Services’ (AFS) market-facing strategies.  This attorney will focus on U.S. federal procurements and government contracting matters, supporting the company’s federal business from opportunity identification and capture through proposal, contract award, performance, modification, and closeout. The role will work closely with business leaders, sales and capture teams, contracts professionals, finance, security, compliance, procurement, and other corporate functions to identify and manage legal and regulatory risks while enabling the company to pursue and deliver innovative technology and consulting solutions to federal customers.

This manager-level counsel position will be a practical, business-oriented attorney who understands that the role of in-house counsel is not simply to identify legal issues, but to help the business understand its options, make informed decisions, and execute effectively.

The successful candidate will become a trusted partner to the company’s federal business. Rather than serving solely as a contract reviewer, this attorney will be embedded in the business and will help teams identify issues early, understand practical options, structure transactions appropriately, and move opportunities forward while protecting the company’s interests.

The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in situations where the answer is not simply "yes" or "no" and can distinguish between legal requirements, contractual obligations, business preferences, and manageable commercial risk.

The Work

  • Advise on Federal Procurements: Provide legal counsel throughout the federal procurement lifecycle.
  • Partner with the Business: Serve as a trusted legal advisor to sales, business development, capture, contracts, and delivery teams, providing practical, business-oriented advice that enables the company to pursue and perform federal business effectively.
  • Draft and Negotiate Agreements: Review, draft, and negotiate federal contracts, subcontracts, teaming agreements, NDAs, licenses, statements of work, and other agreements supporting federal business.
  • Manage Federal Contracting Risk: Identify and advise on legal and contractual risks involving FAR and agency-specific requirements, and federal contracting compliance matters.
  • Support Cross-Functional Operations: Collaborate with corporate functions peers on issues arising from federal contracts and procurements.
  • Provide Strategic Guidance: Translate complex federal procurement requirements into clear, actionable advice; develop practical contracting guidance; and advise business leaders on risk-based approaches to achieving commercial objectives.
  • Support a Scalable Legal Function: Develop and improve processes that enable business and contracts teams to efficiently manage federal procurement and contracting requirements while maintaining legal and compliance controls.

What you need

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and eligibility for admission as Virginia Corporate Counsel.
  • 5+ years of experience at a law firm, U.S. government, or in-house legal department
  • 3+ years of relevant legal experience, including substantial experience with U.S. federal government contracts and procurement.
  • Strong working knowledge of the FAR and applicable federal agency supplements, particularly the DFARS where applicable.
  • Experience reviewing and negotiating federal contracts, solicitations, teaming agreements, subcontracts, and related commercial agreements.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal requirements clearly to business stakeholders.
  • Strong business judgment and the ability to identify material risks without unnecessarily impeding business objectives.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment and manage multiple priorities.

Bonus if you have

  • Experience supporting large technology, consulting, professional services, or systems-integration companies.
  • Experience with highly regulated federal customers.
  • Experience with GSA procurement
  • Familiarity with federal intellectual property and technical data rights, including FAR/DFARS data rights provisions.
  • Experience with federal cybersecurity and supply-chain requirements, including CMMC-related requirements where applicable.
  • Experience with OCI, procurement integrity, suspension/debarment, government ethics, and federal contractor compliance matters.
  • Experience supporting capture and proposal teams prior to solicitation and contract award.
  • Experience counseling senior executives and business leaders.
  • Prior experience at a major law firm, government contractor, federal agency, or in-house legal department supporting federal business.
