Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Project Manager I is a client-facing member of the Project Management Office (PMO) responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering assigned technology, infrastructure, and professional services engagements from initiation through closure. The Project Manager I independently manages projects of moderate complexity, maintaining accountability for scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, issues, customer communication, and overall project execution.

The Project Manager I serves as a primary point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders, partnering closely with technical delivery teams, vendors, and leadership to ensure projects are delivered successfully. The role is expected to identify and address project risks, manage dependencies and changes, maintain accurate project financials and documentation, and escalate significant concerns when additional leadership or decision-making is required.

This position reports to the PMO Manager or designated Service Delivery leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING

PROJECT MANAGEMENT, CLIENT COMMUNICATION, AND DELIVERY SUPPORT:

  • Owns assigned projects from initiation through closure, including project planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closeout.
  • Serves as the primary day-to-day project contact for customers, internal stakeholders, technical resources, and vendors.
  • Develops and maintains project schedules, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, resource requirements, and project plans.
  • Leads project kickoff meetings, recurring status meetings, and other project governance activities; communicates progress, decisions, risks, and required actions.
  • Manages project scope and ensures delivery remains aligned with approved statements of work, timelines, and customer expectations.
  • Monitors project performance and proactively identifies risks, issues, delays, resource constraints, and dependencies; develops and drives appropriate mitigation and resolution plans.
  • Coordinates technical and cross-functional resources to ensure project activities are planned, sequenced, and completed effectively.
  • Manages project changes by documenting scope changes, assessing impacts, coordinating approvals, and ensuring approved changes are incorporated into the project plan.
  • Leads project closure activities, including deliverable acceptance, customer transition, financial and administrative closeout, and lessons learned.

PROJECT ADMINISTRATION, FINANCIAL TRACKING, AND PMO GOVERNANCE:

  • Accountable for project financial performance, including budget, labor, expenses, billing milestones, forecast, and project margin.
  • Reviews project financial and resource performance regularly and identifies potential variances or unfavorable trends early.
  • Maintains accurate and timely project information in ConnectWise and other required PMO systems.
  • Updates project plans, status reports, RAID logs, action items, decision logs, meeting notes, forecasts, and other required PMO artifacts.
  • Coordinates resource assignments and delivery requirements with technical and service delivery leadership.
  • Ensures project activities comply with established PMO processes, governance standards, approval requirements, and documentation practices.
  • Provides visibility into upcoming project milestones, resource requirements, dependencies, financial performance, and delivery risks.
  • Escalates significant scope, financial, customer, resource, or delivery concerns with appropriate context and recommended actions.

KEY PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Produces accurate, timely, and professional project documentation and keeps project systems current.
  • Demonstrates dependable follow-through on assigned actions, meeting preparation, schedule updates, stakeholder communication, and administrative requirements.
  • Identifies and escalates risks, issues, scope concerns, delays, and dependencies in a timely manner rather than allowing avoidable surprises.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with customers, technical resources, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Manages lower-complexity projects and defined workstreams with increasing independence as skills and experience develop.
  • Contributes to PMO consistency and continuous improvement by following standards, applying lessons learned, and recommending practical process enhancements.
