In conjunction with Seattle City Attorney’s Office Leadership and the King County Prosecutor’s Office leadership, the Firearm Supervisor is responsible for developing policies, procedures, and trainings for best practices related to firearms work in Seattle Municipal Court, King County District Court, and King County Superior Court. The Firearm Supervisor will support law enforcement and concerned family/household members in the filing of Extreme Risk Protection Orders and work as part of the Regional Domestic Violence Firearms Enforcement Unit. With a focus on harm reduction and prevention, the mission of the Regional Unit is to reduce gun violence and increase victim and community safety through regional collaboration and proactive enforcement of firearms laws. This Regional Unit, which is made up of employees from both the Seattle City Attorney’s Office and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, is the culmination of a multi-year system review, dedicated to developing effective strategies for Washington State’s civil and criminal firearm relinquishment law (RCW 9.41) and Extreme Risk Protection Order law (RCW 7.105).
- Develop procedures to reduce gun violence and increase victim and community safety through regional collaboration and proactive enforcement of firearms laws;
- Support law enforcement and concerned family/household members in the filing of Extreme Risk Protection Orders;
- Appear in court at King County Superior Court and King County District Court for ERPO hearings
- Manage a caseload of ERPO cases;
- Develop trainings for attorneys and law enforcement;
- Supervise the Seattle City Attorney’s Office firearm employees: Firearm Prosecutor, Firearm Advocate, ERPO Advocate, and the Firearm Risk Assessment Investigator;
- Provide back-up for Firearm Prosecutor when they are unavailable;
- Willingness to be on-call for legal assistance and emergency requests 24 hours a day;
- The ability to advise partners with minimal supervision or direction;
- Ability to work with intense subject matter and sensitive cases;
- Participate in weekly case staffing meetings to review and develop cases within the Regional Unit;
- Participate with Regional Unit members in the legislative planning process, including consulting on proposed or pending legislation;
- Assist in Regional Unit Division policy formulation, implementation, and enforcement;
- Work with Unit Co-Chair to strategize around cross-jurisdictional issues; and
- Other duties as assigned.
- Membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association, or the ability to complete the process of obtaining membership within 30 days of offer of employment.
- Substantial criminal prosecution experience, preferably including:
- Experience advising law enforcement on legal matters
- Firearms prosecution experience
- Domestic violence prosecution experience
- Jury trials
- Filing criminal charges
- Experience working with crime victims, advocates, and law enforcement;
- Expertise in case development (investigation, witness interviews, and filing charges);
- Experience in training and mentoring prosecutors;
- A high level of analysis is necessary in assessing risk/danger/threat of each case and triaging those cases appropriately; and
- Implement, follow, and enforce policies and decisions made by the Unit supervisor, Criminal Division Deputy Chief, and the Criminal Division Chief.

Compensation – Salaries of Assistant City Attorneys are based on years of relevant legal experience. For example, the 2026 annual salary is $128,733.22 for someone with up to one year of experience, $178,087.50 for someone with ten years of experience, and $200,955.65 for someone with at least 20 years of experience. The full salary range for this position is $61.65 – $99.22 per hour. Salaries are not subject to negotiation.

Workplace Environment – The Seattle City Attorney's Office has a Flexible Work Arrangements Policy. Employees have the option to work a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office, 2 days remote). This is subject to change as circumstances and business needs dictate.
