Assistant Club Director – Fairlawn Clubhouse

Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast
Santa Maria, California
Part-Time | $21.75–$23.00 per hour

Ready to Take the Next Step in Youth Development Leadership?

If you enjoy working with young people, building a positive team culture, and taking on leadership responsibilities, this could be a great next step for you.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast is looking for an Assistant Club Director to join our team at our Fairlawn Club in Santa Maria.

This is a hands-on leadership position. You won’t spend your day sitting behind a desk—you’ll be working alongside staff and Club members, helping create a safe, engaging environment where young people can learn, build relationships, and have fun.

The Assistant Club Director works closely with the Club Director to support the daily operation of the Clubhouse, coach and support staff, oversee youth behavior management, and make sure programs are safe, organized, and engaging.

Requirements

What You’ll Do

You’ll help keep the Clubhouse running successfully each day by:

  • Supporting the Club Director with overall Club operations and programming.
  • Helping supervise, coach, train, and provide direction to Youth Development Professionals.
  • Creating a welcoming environment where youth feel safe, supported, and encouraged to participate.
  • Providing positive behavior guidance and serving as a role model for Club members.
  • Helping staff plan and lead activities, programs, and special events.
  • Monitoring program areas to ensure appropriate supervision and youth safety.
  • Building positive relationships with youth, families, staff, volunteers, schools, and community partners.
  • Helping maintain accurate attendance, program, and member records.
  • Supporting staff accountability and helping address challenges as they arise.
  • Pitching in wherever needed to keep the Clubhouse organized, clean, safe, and ready for kids.

The position is designed to be an active leadership role, including both program responsibilities and supporting the Club Director with staff expectations, communication, and personnel matters.

Who We’re Looking For

You could be a great fit if you are someone who:

  • Is at least 18 years old and has a high school diploma or GED.
  • Has at least two years of experience working directly with school-aged youth.
  • Enjoys coaching, mentoring, and motivating both young people and coworkers.
  • Can confidently step into a leadership role while still being part of the day-to-day program.
  • Communicates well with youth, parents, coworkers, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Can remain calm, flexible, and professional in a busy environment.
  • Is dependable, follows through, and can manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Has experience planning or leading programs and activities.
  • Is comfortable supporting youth through behavioral challenges and difficult situations.
  • Has basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, internet research, and social media navigation.

The Club is an active environment, so applicants should also be comfortable being on their feet for extended periods and working in a highly energetic setting.

Why Work With Us?

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Mid Central Coast, our mission is to help young people—especially those who need us most—reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

This position is a great opportunity for someone who wants to:

  • Build leadership experience. Develop skills in staff supervision, program management, behavior management, and Club operations.
  • Make a visible impact. You’ll work directly with youth and see the difference a consistent, caring adult can make.
  • Grow professionally. Staff training is an important part of the position, and the Assistant Club Director role provides valuable experience for someone interested in advancing into nonprofit, education, recreation, management, or youth development leadership. The position includes paid sick leave, paid vacation time, and a retirement savings plan for eligible employees.

Pay

$21.75–$23.00 per hour, depending on experience and educational attainment.
