Medical Director (Mixed Animal) – Pagosa Springs, CO

 

A well-established mixed animal veterinary practice is seeking a Medical Director Veterinarian to provide high-quality medical care while helping guide clinical standards, team development, and day-to-day medical operations. The practice serves a diverse caseload with a strong small animal focus while also supporting large animal patients, including mobile and emergency services. The facility offers modern diagnostic and treatment capabilities, a collaborative support team, and opportunities to practice with a high degr

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive veterinary care for small and large animal patients.
  • Perform wellness examinations, diagnostics, surgery, dentistry, and medical treatments.
  • Manage complex cases and develop appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans.
  • Provide medical leadership and help maintain high standards of patient care.
  • Mentor, support, and collaborate with veterinarians and veterinary support staff.
  • Promote strong communication and long-term relationships with clients.
  • Educate clients regarding preventive care, treatment options, and ongoing patient needs.
  • Support efficient clinical workflows and effective use of medical resources.
  • Encourage continued professional development and a culture of collaboration.
  • Utilize available diagnostic, surgical, rehabilitation, and therapeutic resources.
  • Participate in emergency and mobile large-animal services as appropriate to the practice.

 

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Appropriate veterinary license or eligibility for licensure.
  • Strong clinical and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience providing care in a mixed animal or predominantly small animal practice.
  • Previous leadership, management, or veterinary mentorship experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and client-education skills.
  • Compassionate, client-centered approach to patient care.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with veterinarians and support staff.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and high-quality medicine.
