General Hand

Salary

£18.66 per hour for a 37.5 hour week

We need you!!

If you love driving large vehicles, doing a bit of DIY and don’t mind getting your hands dirty but you’re thinking “I fancy a change”, “I want more variety” or “I want to work in a team”, then we may just have exactly what you’re looking for!

You’ve probably seen some of our vehicles driving around east London transporting our fantastic customers.

Those customers rely on our services to get them to work, to the high street, to hospitals, to days away and nights out – and as part of our engineering team you’ll be a key part in making sure our vehicles are in tip top condition to do just that. It’s a really important role within our depot, so we’ll make sure you’re as looked after as our vehicles are!

You’ll have the responsibility for substituting vehicles on the road, taking buses to test centres, doing odd jobs around the garage and much more. Our buses include modern double deckers and single deckers as well as some new Electric buses which are now in service with us.

You will need to have a full PCV licence and experience of doing some basic DIY including painting and minor maintenance work. This role will involve doing shift work.

You’ll be supported by a great team of Electricians, Mechanics, Technicians, Storespeople, Administrators and Engineering Managers who all pull together to do a brilliant job.

Aside from the reward of helping to deliver an incredible experience to our customers, there’s plenty more we can offer:

• Great benefits £18.66 per hour, to be precise, company pension scheme, free financial education and affordable loans, and a range of money-saving opportunities including discounts on holidays and retail brands, cinema outings, dental insurance, vehicle breakdown cover and hotels and attractions.

• Free travel for you and a household member on TfL bus and rail services (this is a non-contractual benefit) and outside London there is free travel for you and a companion on Stagecoach buses across the UK. Also a Stagecoach pass to use on our services outside of London.

• UK-wide opportunities, career development and secondment opportunities to work elsewhere in our UK business. perhaps you’re happy sticking as a General Hand and that’s fine by us but if you do want to progress we’ll support you every step of the way. You will be given exposure to work which will develop your skills and experience to allow you to progress your career further.

• An employee assistance programme to support health and wellbeing through a confidential service available 24 hours a day, which provides specialist guidance and assistance on a range of personal and work-related issues, from dealing with stress and anxiety to managing financial, marital or legal issues.

• A great working environment with loads of opportunity to make new friends from a bunch of great colleagues and employee networks building inclusive environments for women, veterans, carers, multicultural and LGBTQ+ colleagues. We are proud to advocate and collaborate with our corporate charity, as well as a number of community engagement projects – in addition to proudly promoting an array of health, wellbeing and family initiatives.
