As a Millwright at Johnson Electric, you’ll play an important role in maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, refurbishing, installing, and commissioning industrial production and test equipment. The role supports reliable, safe, and efficient high-volume manufacturing operations through mechanical expertise across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and related electrical and controls systems. The Millwright also supports equipment upgrades and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with company safety, quality, environmental, and production requirements. The Millwright reports to the Maintenance Supervisor

What You’ll Be Doing:
- Perform planned and preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, refurbishment, and emergency breakdown response on industrial machinery, production equipment, and facility systems to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot equipment and diagnose complex mechanical failures; identify root causes and recommend appropriate repairs, replacements, or improvements.
- Maintain, repair, assemble, debug, install, align, test, and start up new, modified, or existing CNC, PLC-controlled, robotic, and automated assembly equipment from a mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and related controls perspective.
- Maintain and repair equipment such as pumps, valves, actuators, motors, gearboxes, mechanical drives, speed reducers, conveyors, presses, machine tooling, and related production systems.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, prints, layouts, schematics, operating and maintenance manuals, and other technical documentation; help maintain accurate equipment records and recommend updates where required.
- Perform precision mechanical work, including alignment, rigging, welding, pipefitting, fabrication, and equipment modifications, as required.
- Use appropriate tools, rigging practices, lifting devices, and material-handling equipment to safely position, install, dismantle, and repair machinery.
- Respond to urgent equipment failures, determine required parts and resources, and coordinate repairs with internal teams or external contractors as needed.
- Support capital projects, equipment installations, commissioning, start-up, upgrades, and production improvement initiatives in collaboration with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and Quality teams.
- Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS/EAM) to document completed work, update work orders, support parts procurement, and maintain equipment history.
- Coordinate with maintenance team members to support effective communication, shift hand-offs, work planning, project organization, and housekeeping.
- Coordinate or oversee contractor maintenance work when required and inspect completed work to ensure it meets company requirements and applicable standards.
- Contribute to equipment reliability, safety, quality, and maintenance effectiveness initiatives; ensure machinery meets operational and production requirements.
- Assist with training and mentoring apprentices and less-experienced millwrights, as appropriate.
- Follow applicable legislation, safety procedures, codes, and company management systems, including relevant IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.
- A valid Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), Red Seal or provincial equivalent, in good standing, is preferred.
- Completion of a recognized Millwright apprenticeship is preferred.
- Candidates without a Millwright certificate or ticket may be considered with five (5) or more years of relevant hands-on industrial maintenance experience.
Experience
- One (1) to five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing industrial machinery and mechanical systems.
- Experience supporting CNC, PLC-controlled, robotic, or automated assembly equipment in a high-volume production environment is preferred.
TECHNICAL & SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Strong hands-on mechanical skills and knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, gear drives, rotating equipment, and industrial machinery.
- Working knowledge of basic electrical and controls systems, with exposure to CNC- and PLC-based equipment; Fanuc robot experience is an asset.Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices, equipment installation, alignment, rigging, and safe work procedures.
- Understanding of applicable occupational health and safety requirements and company safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
- Working knowledge of CMMS/EAM systems and Microsoft Office applications is an asset.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively across Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and contractor teams.
- Effective communication skills, dependability, a sense of urgency in a production environment, and the ability to support or mentor less-experienced team members..
WORK ENVIRONMENT (INCLUDING PHYSICAL DEMANDS)
- Work is performed in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, temperature variations, production materials and by-products, heights, confined spaces, and areas with limited lighting.
- The role requires standing and walking for extended periods and climbing stairs, ladders, or scaffolding; crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and turning while handling tools, components, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
- Operation of material-handling and lifting equipment, such as cranes, chain hoists, and lift trucks, as required.
- Willingness to work rotating or continental shifts, overtime, shutdowns, and emergency call-ins as required to support operations.
