Description

The Pre-School Aide is responsible for developing curriculum and care for preschoolers in accordance with developmentally appropriate practices. The program values an environment where children can explore and expand their developmental knowledge by directing their own play.

This position will teach the youngest kids, ages 3 years - 5 years. They will work directly with support from the Lead Teacher/Director.

The pre-school aide will be responsible for observing the development and progress of children, developing instructional methods, materials and techniques using developmentally appropriate practice for children, communicating with families both formally and informally. A formal conference will be scheduled each year with the families. Each child’s portfolio will be reviewed along with the results of any developmental screening tools. The aide will report to the Superintendent of Recreation and will require communication with various staff members of the senior center and recreation department.A Pre-School Aide may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.)

  • Conduct screening and ongoing assessment of children and provide age-appropriate instructional support.
  • Consider the lead teacher an essential member of the teaching team.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher in planning, team meetings, troubleshooting, and decision making.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to monitor behavior and support the educational process in classroom.
  • Create and update anecdotal records and portfolios for each child.
  • Complete required progress reports and other paperwork
  • Participate in district recruitment efforts, including open house.
  • Maintain inventory of classroom equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Schedule parent/family activities
  • Able to work flexible hours as needed for family involvement activities.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy educational environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
A Pre-School Aide, upon application, shall have the following training and experience:
 
 Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher in early childhood education or equivalent including or supplemented by course work, training or experience which results in the below stated knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Pre-School experience
  • Ability to work with 3 – 5 yr. old students.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with an adaptable and flexible style in working with all types of individuals.
