Description

Your Role as Community Development Officer

The Community Development Officer embeds headspace services within the local community by building partnerships, delivering events and programs, and promoting early help-seeking for young people.

The role also supports advisory groups to contribute to governance and service development, while working collaboratively with staff and stakeholders to drive effective, community-focused youth engagement.

In this role you will:

  • Lead the recruitment of young people and their support networks to be involved in the headspace Young Peoples Advisory Committee (YPAC), and Family & Friends Reference Group (F&FRG).

  • Provide youth-friendly orientation, training, and support for young people, and family and friends.

  • Develop materials (e.g. Welcome Packs) for orientation to headspace WMQ for young people and their support networks and improve centre accessibility.

  • Pursue opportunities to form strategic partnerships with other local community organisations to provide holistic wraparound care to young people accessing the services.

  • Lead the planning, development, and delivery of consistent, evidence-based community education regarding youth mental wellbeing using innovative and creative approaches.

  • Develop and deliver events tailored for target groups to deliver key messages (e.g. mental health literacy, reduced stigma, anti-discrimination, early help seeking).

What We Offer

  • Salary Packaging: As a not‑for‑profit employer, we offer generous salary packaging benefits that help maximise your take‑home pay. You can package up to $15,900 each year on everyday living expenses and up to $2,650 on meals and entertainment—reducing your taxable income and giving you more in your pocket.

  • Team Culture: Be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team across diverse clinical settings that values your skills and wellbeing.

  • Career Advancement Opportunities: We provide ample career advancement opportunities at WMQ, offering diverse pathways for growth and professional development

  • Perks and Benefits: We love our employee benefits, and you’ll love them too! Get discounts on private health insurance, gym memberships and travel and so much more.

What We’re Looking For

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health Promotion, Public Health, Community Development, Social/Behavioural Science, Social Work, or a related Human Services discipline.

  • Experience working with young people with mental health, alcohol and other drugs and other social issues.

  • Understanding of the challenges and experiences of young people from diverse backgrounds including young people who are culturally and linguistically diverse, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and LGBTQIAP+ young people.

  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

Essential Requirements

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status (or as required by legislation and WMQ policy)

  • Relevant probity checks required by legislation and WMQ Limited policy.

  • Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel for work
