As a Tommie Central Desk Attendant, you will greet guests, answer questions, and assist with information about campus events and locations. You'll handle transactions, manage equipment rentals, and oversee the bowling center. Responsibilities also include operating phones, managing switchboard duties, and ensuring building compliance during staff absences. Evening and weekend availability is required.

OVERVIEW

JOB TITLE: Tommie Central Desk Attendant

LOCATION: St. Paul Campus

PAY RATE: $16.50 per hour

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Tommie Central Desk Attendants are responsible for providing exceptional customer service, welcoming guests to the building, and providing information about the Anderson Student Center and/or the University in general to callers and visitors. This includes directions, building locations, and information about campus meetings, events, and resources. Desk Attendants are also responsible for building, bowling alley, and general oversight at times where professional staff are not present.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Welcome guests to the Anderson Student Center and provide high quality customer service to the University community and guests.
  • Answer the questions of customers who approach the desk or call in, providing necessary solutions and direction.
  • Responsible for retail transactions from inquiries to completing and documenting sales on the register.
  • Facilitate, check out, and maintain accurate records for rentals of equipment and lockers, including cleaning and organizing rental equipment.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of current campus happenings and events.
  • Manage and provide oversight to the bowling center. This includes general supervision, inventory management, facility opening and closing, walk-up, and reservation transaction management.
  • Responsible for the operation of Tommie Central phones and the University Switchboard. Provide directory information, driving directions, building locations, and meeting and event information to callers.
  • Using provided resources and trainings to think critically and make sound rational decisions regarding building operations.
  • When Building Managers are not working, complete regular rounds of the building to be a visual presence throughout the Anderson Student Center while monitoring room usage and ensuring that spaces are being used by the requestors in a manner consistent with building policies.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Students will complete approximately 3 hours of paid training, including a portion of online training prior to working their first shift.
  • The Anderson Student Center is a year-round operation. Candidates willing to work during Summer and J-Term are encouraged to apply.
  • In addition, all Tommie Central staff members must attend a 30-minute meeting once a month, on the first Tuesday or Thursday of the month over Convo Hour from 12:00pm-12:30pm.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse customer base.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, written and verbal communication skills, and patience.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ability to work accurately with attention to detail on all transactions and interactions.
  • Evening and weekend availability.
  • Experience working with a cash register is helpful.
  • Tommie Central student employees may not be on Conduct Probation during their employment.
  • Tommie Central student employees must have excellent knowledge of University buildings, the function of University offices, and a familiarity with the 25Live reservation system for events and meeting information.

 

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
