About the Team and Role

The eBay Cloud team powers the foundational infrastructure behind thousands of eBay applications. We operate hundreds of Kubernetes clusters across diverse environments. This makes us one of the largest private cloud platforms in the industry. We manage millions of compute instances globally.

Within this organization, the Traffic Engineering team plays a meaningful role in ensuring the availability, scalability, security, and performance of eBay’s cloud platform. The team owns the full lifecycle of cloud traffic infrastructure, including global traffic management (GTM), load balancing, Point of Presence (PoP) architecture, service mesh, API gateways, advanced network policy enforcement, and edge-to-cluster connectivity.

Our platforms handle billions of requests every day and support secure, low-latency communication across eBay’s global network. We build and run highly resilient traffic routing and observability systems assisted by AI. These systems enable intelligent traffic management, predictive reliability, automated fixes, and self-service developer tools at large scale.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager, Cloud Networking. This person will lead a high-performing team building, operating, and evolving one of the world’s largest Kubernetes-based private cloud traffic platforms.

What You Will Accomplish

• Lead and encourage a dedicated team, promoting ownership, innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor and guide engineers, promoting career development and technical excellence.

• Work together with senior leadership to establish engineering strategies and priorities.

Leadership & Organizational Development

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing cloud and traffic engineers, encouraging a culture of ownership, innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor engineers and emerging leaders through regular one-on-ones, career development planning, performance management, and technical mentorship.
• Promote organizational growth by focusing on strategic recruitment, succession planning, talent advancement, and fostering an inclusive, cooperative engineering environment.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to establish engineering strategy, implementation priorities, and long-term roadmap investments.

Cloud Traffic Platform Engineering & Operations

• Lead the build, development, and operation of highly scalable, fault-tolerant, and secure traffic management platforms supporting eBay’s private cloud infrastructure.
• Champion modern cloud-native architectures, platform standardization, and AI-powered operational tooling to improve scalability, reliability, observability, and developer efficiency.
• Use AI and machine learning insights and automation for anomaly detection, predictive capacity management, intelligent traffic routing, incident reduction, root cause analysis, and self-healing infrastructure.
• Ensure strong engineering expertise across the full software lifecycle, including architecture, observability, resiliency, security, deployment automation, and operational readiness.

AI, Automation & Developer Experience

• Advance adoption of AI-assisted engineering and operational workflows to improve infrastructure efficiency, reduce operational toil, and accelerate incident response.
• Build intelligent self-service platforms and infrastructure features that simplify traffic management for application teams.
• Work alongside SRE and platform engineering units to apply automation-first operational frameworks, boosting scalability and operational resilience organization-wide.
• Elevate developer experience (DX) by applying uniform tooling, observability, policy automation, and fluid platform integrations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Strategic Execution

• Work in close partnership with Cloud Engineering, SRE, Product, PMO, Fleet Management, and Security groups to ensure engineering investments are aligned with business and platform priorities.
• Collaborate with Information Security and Global Security teams to establish strong security controls, alignment to compliance standards, zero-trust networking, and threat protection capabilities.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and fleet management teams on strategic planning, resource optimization, and initiatives for cost efficiency across large-scale private cloud environments.
• Influence architectural direction and operational standards across multiple engineering organizations and global collaborators.

What you will bring

• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years of engineering leadership or people management experience in large-scale infrastructure organizations.
• Relevant experience leading high-performing engineering teams in cloud infrastructure, networking, platform engineering, or distributed systems domains.
• Strong technical expertise in cloud-native architectures and technologies, including Kubernetes, containerization, service mesh, microservices, and platforms that connect through interfaces.
• Deep understanding of large-scale traffic management systems, networking, reliability engineering, and security principles in cloud environments.
• Experience driving operational excellence through automation, observability, SRE practices, and AI-assisted operational workflows.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and partner leadership skills, with the ability to influence across organizational and technical boundaries.
• Experience operating in large, globally distributed engineering organizations with multiple partners.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience customizing and maintaining Linux kernels for high-performance or large-scale computing platforms.
• Expertise in planning, prioritization, and cost optimization for large cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of networking, security, storage, distributed systems, DevOps, and SRE guidelines.
• Hands-on experience implementing AI and machine learning-based operational tooling, intelligent observability platforms, or autonomous infrastructure operations.
• Professional certifications related to Kubernetes or cloud infrastructure (e.g., CKA, CKS).
• Established collaboration with Information Security organizations on compliance, governance, security controls, and monitoring.
• Solid grasp of developer experience (DX) principles and platform usability for internal engineering customers.
• Product-oriented approach with the ability to balance scalability, security, operational cadence, and customer empathy.
