Automation Operator

Description

Monitors automation equipment to ensure they are meeting or exceeding set goals for production and quality standards. This will entail the following processes: grinding, spot weld, press brake, CNC mill, paint, general machines, material handling, etc. Reduce manual labor cost by converting processes over to automation or improving processes. 

Duties and responsibilities

Includes the following also with other duties that may be assigned:

• Will work in conjunction with the team leads to ensure the machines are achieving established goals. Will work in conjunction with jigs and fixture / Innovation department to ensure the fixtures needed for the jobs are adequate to meet production needs, quality requirements and repeatability standards. Will work injunction with estimating to ensure we can achieve cost effective quotes to meet processes. Will work with estimating / Scheduling to identify potential / future work to keep automation equipment busy. 
• Create and maintain consistent clear set up instructions. 
• Conduct offline programing for the equipment. 
• Will need to have a flexible schedule to achieve the green light time measurements
• Program management. Create programs needed for the process using a standard method and any logic needed for the set up.
• Calibration of equipment. Weekly or daily if needed calibration completed to maintain accuracy of the equipment to help maintain the accuracy of the programs
• Condition of equipment. Monitor and maintain working condition of equipment to ensure that it is in proper use. Ensure the condition of our machines are maintained. Work injunction with maintenance to ensure equipment is maintained in the correct condition.

• Will need to have clear and effective communication skills to help promote and deal with situations, morale and team building. Will need to complete or have completed some communication training. 
• Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with 5 or more years’ experience in manufacturing, preferably metal fabrication; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Leadership training. Will need minimal of 3 years’ experience in the specific area.  
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, engineering specifications, safety rules, work rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information, communicates, and responds to questions from team members, customers, and suppliers. 
• Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divides in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Must pass the DeWys competency test.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must possess good problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License to be licensed as a qualified lift truck driver at DeWys Manufacturing, Inc.

While performing the duties of this job, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The team member is occasionally exposed to high places, fumes and airborne particles when performing grinding operations, and toxic and caustic chemicals when cleaning tools. Team member is also exposed to outside weather conditions when unloading sheet metal supplies. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud requiring hearing protection to be worn at all times. Safety glasses must also be worn at all times by team members.

While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to stand; team member is frequently required to communicate with fellow team members and walk throughout the VS. The team member is occasionally required to sit while performing administrative duties. Team member may on occasion be required to climb, balance, and crawl underneath machines when performing necessary repairs or maintenance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
