General Manager – Payments & POS Technology

Location: Remote – South Africa

Salary: Approximately R100,000 per month, depending on experience
Travel: Periodic international travel across Africa, Europe and Asia

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven General Manager to take overall responsibility for the strategic, commercial and operational management of a specialist payments and POS technology business.

This is a hands-on executive leadership role suited to an individual with deep experience in the POS terminal and electronic payments industry, combined with strong commercial, operational and financial management capabilities.

The successful candidate will lead a specialised team while driving business growth, product expansion, operational excellence, supplier partnerships and customer success across Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the overall strategic, commercial and operational management of the business.
• Drive revenue, profitability, market share and business growth across Sub-Saharan Africa.
• Develop new business and maintain strategic relationships with banks, fintechs, payment providers, retailers and partners.
• Lead the POS product strategy, including hardware, software, Android terminals and value-added solutions.
• Manage key international suppliers and technology partners, particularly across Europe and Asia.
• Oversee procurement, logistics, inventory, repairs, deployment and customer service.
• Work closely with software and technical teams to ensure products remain competitive, commercially viable and market relevant.
• Manage budgets, forecasts, margins, costs and overall financial performance.
• Lead, develop and retain a high-performing specialist team.
• Identify new markets, products, partnerships and commercial opportunities to support expansion.
• Ensure strong governance, risk management, operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• Represent the business at a senior level with customers, suppliers, technology partners and the broader Group.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics or a related field.
• 10+ years' experience within the payments and/or POS terminal industry.
• 5+ years' experience in senior management or executive leadership.
• Demonstrated experience managing the financial performance of a business.
• Strong commercial, strategic and operational leadership experience.

Advantageous

• MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification.
• Payments, banking or electronic transactions certifications.
• Experience working with international hardware manufacturers.
• Experience distributing and selling POS terminals across Sub-Saharan Africa.
