Description
Library Page positions are educational opportunities for candidates who are currently enrolled as students in an accredited educational program. Preference for this position will be given to students currently enrolled in MLIS programs.

The New York Public Library has been an essential provider of free books, information, ideas and education for all New Yorkers for more than 100 years. A Page position will give you knowledge about what it means to work within an archive. You will have access to a wealth of knowledge and experience that will allow you to decide if a position in libraries, archives, or museums is where you want to begin your career. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, are reliable and possess excellent written and verbal communications skills. You will be expected to be an ambassador for the library, so a friendly demeanor goes a long way.
Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Assistant Curator of the Billy Rose Theatre Division, the Library Page works a maximum of 19 hours per week and is responsible for a variety of tasks within the Division, including:
- Retrieving and shelving Special Collections materials including processed and unprocessed archival and graphic materials.
- Rehousing fragile materials including papers, scrapbooks, graphic materials, photographic prints and negatives.
- Shelf-reading special collections and rare book holdings.
- Assisting in preparing and sending Special Collections materials for processing and to offsite storage.
- Support the preparation and processing of material for use in the Special Collections Reading Room.
- Scanning, photocopying, and messenger work.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education, Experience & Skills
- Page Positions are reserved for candidates who are currently enrolled as students in a degree program/accredited school. (High School, GED Program, Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, etc)
- Proper employment certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law
- Ability to accurately and efficiently sort and arrange items in alphanumeric order
- Strong organizational skills and ability to follow detailed instruction in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with a diverse patronage
- Superb interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
- Demonstrated reliability and professionalism
- Basic computer and basic technology skills such as Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to troubleshoot basic computer and scanner issues preferred
- Familiarity with theatre history preferred
- Current enrollment in MLIS programs.
