The Opportunity

The Risk and Compliance Advisor Lead is responsible for providing strategic second-line risk and compliance oversight for the Investments business, including investment advisers, mutual funds, and shared services compliance programs supporting banking and insurance lines of business. This role leads governance initiatives by partnering with risk teams and business stakeholders to establish and enhance governance routines, risk mitigation activities, procedures, due diligence processes, and compliance frameworks. The successful candidate will identify cross-functional risks impacting the Investments business and evaluate potential effects on other lines of business while ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, corporate policies, and industry best practices.

The right candidate provides independent oversight, effective challenge, and risk management guidance across investment products, services, and operational processes. Responsibilities include supporting the identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring, and reporting of operational, compliance, and strategic risks through programs such as Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) and Risk Profile management. The role collaborates closely with business leaders, legal, compliance, audit, and other key stakeholders to address emerging issues, execute risk coverage plans, implement new laws and regulations, and conduct risk assessments. The position ensures risks are appropriately measured, monitored, controlled, and reported, fostering a strong culture of compliance and helping maintain risk exposures within acceptable levels while supporting business objectives.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position is in San Antonio, TX

What you'll do:

  • Routinely communicates results of risk assessments to governance committees, business process owners and various levels of leadership and influences decision making.
  • Develops processes and procedures for successful implementation of new risk policies, practices, appetites, and solutions to ensure holistic understanding and management of risks according to industry best practice.
  • Identifies and seeks key stakeholders across the enterprise to support the identification, assessment, aggregation and the overall management of risks and controls.
  • Crafts key communications related to risk and compliance insights to be delivered to executives and board members.
  • Executes compliance risk management activities in accordance with enterprise compliance standards.
  • Maintains and expands expert knowledge of the competitive/regulatory landscape and the company's key challenges. Keeps abreast of the competitive/regulatory landscape and shares expert knowledge w/team members.
  • Coordinates and responds to regulatory requirements and requests and ensures the execution of examinations.
  • Applies expert knowledge to utilize or produce analytical material for discussions with cross functional teams to understand business objectives and influence solution strategies.
  • Leads, assembles, and facilitates cross-functional teams to identify, assess, aggregate, and mitigate current and emerging risk events.
  • Serves as the point of contact for senior risk leadership on projects and special management requests that often impact the enterprise or core operating area.
  • Formulates and reviews stress test plans for a line of business or the enterprise

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.



Experiences that will support your success:

  • 8 or more years relevant experience in risk, compliance, legal or audit within the financial services or insurance industry or specialized technical fields directly related to the role.
  • Risk and compliance management experience in a complex institution and/or highly matrixed environment.
  • Expert knowledge of compliance laws, regulations, and regulatory expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply expert knowledge of regulatory risk and compliance to consult and provide insights and guidance.
  • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution management and ability to effectively challenge at all levels of management and influence business outcomes.
  • Experience leading and directing work with internal and external partners in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques and decision-making abilities, to include demonstrated ability to effectively make data-driven decisions.
  • Proactively identifies potential concerns and resolve issues.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

What Sets you Apart:

  • Strong knowledge of risk management frameworks, including RCSA, Risk Profiles, and issue management.
  • Experience providing second-line risk and compliance oversight and effective challenge to business partners.
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, compliance, and strategic risks across multiple business functions.
  • Knowledge of investment industry regulations and experience implementing new laws, regulations, and governance requirements.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is: $143,320 - $273,930.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
