Job Description:
This job is responsible for defining an architectural vision and solution aligned to the enterprise architecture strategy, technology, and platform choices. Key responsibilities include describing the solution intent/associated operating environment, evaluating system impacts, determining the primary systems/sub-systems and their interfaces, and assisting with end-to-end solution design. Job expectations include defining non-functional requirements/architectural runway to support new epics/features and ensuring solutions are fit for purpose by working with stakeholders and service providers.

The Strategy, Architecture and Innovation (StArI) team is shaping the future technology landscape at Bank of America! We partner with business and engineering teams to define target-state architectures, enable AI-powered capabilities, modernize enterprise data platforms, and ensure investments align to strategic outcomes. Our mission is to transform ideas into scalable solutions that accelerate innovation, improve client experiences, and create reusable enterprise value.
StArI is in search of a talented Solutions Architect who will lead the design and delivery of scalable, enterprise-grade solutions that leverage big data frameworks, cloud-native services, and advanced AI/GenAI capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Consults with the business and operations to identify and understand challenges and opportunities to improve the use and effectiveness of technology, find creative solutions through knowledge of the domain, practical experiments, and Proof of Concepts, and aligns the solution intent and architectural vision to an evolving backlog of technology change
- Works with product management and other stakeholders to plan and prioritize technology focused backlog items for the architecture runway to enable business epics/features
- Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements for a solution are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)
- Leads rapid shaping of a high level architecture with details filled in with emerging business requirements and ensures architecture is flexible, modular, and designed to adapt easily
- Educates team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions
- Clarifies the architecture and assists with system design for the development teams to support implementation and provides solution options to resolve any architectural impediments
- Utilizes the defined best practices, templates, and documentation to create architectural designs and suggests improvements to best practices and templates
- Defines solution vision aligned to Analytics and Operations Line of Business
- Creates robust data pipelines using technologies such as Spark and Hadoop, integrate ETL tools, and utilize AWS/Azure services to support high-performance data processing and analytics
- Designs and implement AI and GenAI solutions with hands-on experience in integrating Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and optimizing model performance
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Big Data & ETL: Spark/Hadoop, SQL, Airflow/ADF/Glue; batch + streaming at scale
- Cloud: AWS/Azure architecture, serverless & containerized services, IaC (Terraform/Bicep), CI/CD
- AI/GenAI: LLM integration, RAG pipelines, vector DBs, model optimization, MLOps/LLMOps
- Architecture: PoV creation, PoC execution, trade-off analyses, reference architectures, security by design
- Data Products: Semantic layers, graph tech, metadata-driven architectures, lineage & governance
- Platform Engineering: Reusable components, observability, performance, cost optimization.
- Collaboration: Cross-functional leadership, stakeholder demos, clear documentation and communication
- Languages/Tools: Python, SQL, PySpark, MLflow, LangChain/LlamaIndex, Databricks, Kafka, Terraform
Desired Qualifications:
- Data modeling (dimensional, data vault, ontology design for knowledge graphs)
- Data mesh operating model; product-oriented data contracts
- Advanced retrieval (hybrid search, Rerankers, multi-vector, structured + unstructured fusion)
- Experience with offline/online feature stores
- Edge/real-time AI and low-latency inference patterns
