Part-Time Custodian

Description

The Ecclesial School at Saint Alban’s offers a rich learning atmosphere, classical liberal arts curriculum, and formative Christian practices to children of diverse social and economic backgrounds. The Custodian helps bring this mission and vision to life each day by ensuring the facilities are clean, safe, and functional and by assisting the maintenance technician with routine building maintenance tasks. This is a part-time, non- exempt hourly position, reporting to the Facilities Manager. On the job training will be provided.  This position would be approximately 8-10 hours/week (about 4-5 hours over 2 days).  The work must happen after normal school hours.

Facilities Janitorial Responsibilities:

• Check all areas of the school for cleanliness and readiness for the next school day.
• Clean windows and glass doors 
• Clean floors by vacuuming and mopping in classrooms and the main hall
• Clean bathrooms in main areas, classrooms, and shared bathrooms with the church
• Dusts offices and classrooms
• Cleans kitchen twice a week
• Deep cleans the bathrooms and kitchen on a regular basis as determined by need
• Remove and properly dispose of all waste and recyclable materials 
• Help maintain exterior property as directed by the facilities manager
• Clean and prepare classrooms for incoming classes; remove or rearrange furniture for events or classes, as needed 
• Assists the facilities manager with monthly and quarterly cleaning tasks
• Performs other work related duties as assigned

Experience and Education

• High school education or equivalent 
• 5+ years of working experience in facilities maintenance 
• Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry 
• Ability to work with minimal supervision 
• Must demonstrate communication skills; customer service oriented 
• Must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: 

• Ability to push/lift 60 pounds 
• Ability to climb ladders 
• Bending at waist, sitting, kneeling, climbing, walking, crouching as job may require

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (l2-20 pounds). 

Sensory Requirements: Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. 

Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease or pathogenic substances.
