Warehouse Support
Furniture Mission of South Dakota
Reports To: Warehouse Manager / Operations Director
Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Warehouse Support position provides hands-on assistance with the daily physical operations of Furniture Mission of South Dakota. This position helps receive, move, organize, load, deliver, and distribute donated furniture and household items while supporting a safe, clean, and welcoming warehouse environment.
The Warehouse Support team member works under the direction of warehouse and organizational leadership and alongside staff and volunteers to accomplish the daily work of the mission.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Warehouse Support
- Load, unload, move, and organize furniture and household items.
- Assist with receiving donations from individuals and community partners.
- Help inspect incoming donations according to Furniture Mission guidelines.
- Place furniture and household items in designated warehouse areas.
- Prepare furniture and household items for distribution to families.
- Help maintain clean, organized, and safe warehouse, receiving, and client areas.
- Assist with moving inventory throughout the warehouse as needed.
- Complete daily warehouse tasks as assigned by leadership.
- Properly use carts, dollies, straps, and other warehouse equipment.
Pickups & Deliveries
- Assist with scheduled furniture pickups and deliveries.
- Load and unload Furniture Mission vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Secure furniture appropriately for transportation.
- Enter donor and client homes respectfully and handle property with care.
- Assist the driver with navigation, loading, unloading, and other needs while on the road.
- Drive Furniture Mission vehicles when assigned and qualified.
- Keep trucks clean and report vehicle, equipment, or safety concerns to leadership.
Volunteers
- Work alongside volunteers to complete warehouse projects and daily tasks.
- Provide basic assistance to volunteers when needed.
- Model safe lifting, furniture handling, and workplace practices.
- Help create a welcoming and positive environment for volunteers.
- Refer volunteer questions, concerns, scheduling needs, or issues to warehouse leadership.
Donors & Families
- Greet donors and assist with unloading donations.
- Provide friendly and respectful customer service.
- Treat every family served by Furniture Mission with dignity, patience, and kindness.
- Help families safely move selected items through the warehouse and loading process.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding clients and their circumstances.
- Represent Furniture Mission professionally while working in the warehouse and throughout the community.
Qualifications
- Dependable and punctual.
- Willingness to work hard and be part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
- Positive and respectful communication skills.
- Comfortable working with people from a variety of backgrounds.
- Able to adapt to changing daily priorities.
- Warehouse, moving, delivery, construction, or similar experience is helpful but not required.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Ability to safely lift approximately 50–75 pounds independently and heavier furniture with assistance or appropriate equipment.
- Ability to move furniture throughout the workday.
- Ability to enter and exit trucks and assist with repeated loading and unloading.
- Ability to work indoors, in warehouse conditions, and outdoors in varying weather.
