The Position

We are seeking passionate and motivated Registered Nurses to join our dynamic Surgical Ward at St John of God Bendigo Hospital on a casual basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative surgical team, providing high-quality, patient-centred care throughout the surgical journey.

As a casual Registered Nurse, you will have the flexibility to work across a range of shifts while continuing to develop your clinical skills and experience within a supportive hospital environment.

You will have the opportunity to further develop your skills across clinical assessment, care planning, medication management and pre- and post-operative care while working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team.

If you are a dynamic and flexible Registered Nurse with strong communication skills, sound clinical judgement and a passion for delivering exceptional patient care, we want to hear from you.

Join our dedicated and supportive Surgical Ward team at St John of God Bendigo Hospital and enjoy the flexibility of casual nursing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to patients throughout their surgical journey.

  • Complete comprehensive clinical assessments and develop, implement and evaluate individualised care plans.

  • Deliver safe and effective pre- and post-operative care, including pain management, wound care, medication administration and clinical monitoring.

  • Recognise and respond to changes in patients’ clinical condition, escalating care appropriately when required.

  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, medical staff, allied health and the wider multidisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.

  • Provide education and support to patients and families regarding treatment, recovery, medications and discharge requirements.

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and provide clear, timely clinical handover.

  • Contribute to safe and effective discharge planning and continuity of care.

  • Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control and clinical safety.

  • Contribute to a positive team culture and exceptional patient experience.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have well-developed clinical assessment, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide safe, compassionate and patient-centred care in a busy hospital environment.

You will demonstrate sound clinical judgement, strong prioritisation and problem-solving skills, together with a commitment to teamwork, clinical excellence and delivering a positive patient experience.

You will hold current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse, along with recent clinical experience in an acute care, surgical or relevant healthcare environment.

Previous surgical nursing experience will be highly regarded; however, we are also interested in Registered Nurses with strong acute clinical skills who are looking to develop their experience within surgical nursing.
