PURPOSE
This position supports the marketing and communication needs of University Auxiliaries departments; primarily serving the Campus Store, Parking, Print Services, SandDollar$ Services, and other contracted university services. The Communications Specialist I is responsible for developing and sharing clear, engaging, and informative content across multiple platforms with a variety of audiences, including prospective students, current students, the campus community, and various other stakeholders, including the general public.
DESCRIPTION
Functional Area 1: Content Development and Communication Support
Percent Effort: 50%
Develop and maintain standards for University Auxiliaries marketing (email, print, physical signs, notifications, social media, digital signage, etc.).
Produces content for traditional and digital marketing campaigns, social media, media relations, print, and websites.
Coordinates across department staff and leadership for promoting events, experiences, and initiatives.
Plans, implements, and promotes special events and programs.
Generates ideas for communications strategies.
Creates and distributes routine and special email blasts and other communications for constituents of University Auxiliaries.
Work closely with University Auxiliaries leadership staff to develop and send regular updates to various stakeholders.
Draft and send special notices related to emergencies.
Draft monthly reporting documents to track progress related to different initiatives.
Works with vendors to craft newsletters to students, faculty, and staff.
Hires, trains, and supervises multiple student interns.
Functional Area 2: Graphic Design and Digital Story Telling
Percent Effort: 40%
Develops graphics for event promotion and provides graphic design and digital storytelling support for social media and other needs.
Monitor and update relevant University Auxiliaries social media accounts.
Takes the lead on University Auxiliaries social media content creation, including writing content for posts, designing graphics, and scheduling content.
Provide support and guidance for partnered social media accounts.
Monitors key social media activities and participates proactively in dialog benefiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Stays current on new technologies, best practices, and trends in social media.
Functional Area 3: Department Support
Percent Effort: 10%
Supports University Auxiliaries staff in event management and projects as necessary, which includes communications and promotion planning for events. Will include occasional evening and weekend events.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, graphic design or related field.
Additional experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements:
High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years of experience in a related field.
Associate’s degree and two (2) years of experience in a related field.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
Demonstrated experience in meeting established deadlines.
Ability to verbally present information clearly and concisely.
Ability to create easily understandable written content.
Ability to create appealing content for various constituents.
Proficient using a variety of social media platforms (example: Facebook, Instagram).
Proficiency using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop on a daily basis.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) or more years of related experience
Two (2) or more years related experience in a university environment working with a student-oriented and service-centered attitude.
Advanced knowledge of communications, marketing and/or public relations.
Experience editing and shooting video.
Design Portfolio provided with application is preferred.
SALARY: $43,888/annually, approximately
$3,657.34/monthly
