Description
Ergon Inc. seeks a full-time Junior Designer Engineer to join our Corporate PCR team. This is an entry-level technical support position within the Corporate PCR (Pavement and Coating Resources) Engineering Department of Ergon, Inc. The Junior Designer supports Senior Designers in developing and maintaining 2D and 3D CAD drawings using Autodesk Plant 3D for capital projects, maintenance engineering, and construction activities, while assisting in keeping facility master data accurate and up to date. The Junior Designer is responsible for collecting field data and performing laser scanning to support design development and as-built documentation. This role provides opportunities to learn drafting and design best practices, participate in continuous improvement efforts, and collaborate closely with the Engineering Design Supervisor to support departmental objectives and overall corporate goals.
Position Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel.
- Proficiency or Knowledge with AutoCAD, and Autodesk Plant 3D.
- Postsecondary certification, associate degree, or working towards a Postsecondary certification or associate degree in technical drawing or related field recommended.
- Experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D or similar design software preferred.
- Experience with concrete, structural, and piping construction is a plus.
- Requires a self-motivated individual with strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.
- Must successfully complete MVR, drug screening, and background check.
Responsibilities Include the Following:

- Travel as required (typically no more than 2 to 3 day a month) and perform facility site visits, field data gathering, and laser scanning of necessary information to assist in as-building, scope development, project reviews and development of modified or new drawings.
- Operate laser scanning equipment and process scan data utilizing Faro Scene software.
- Operate CAD systems to produce new drawings or modify existing drawings for review, approval, meetings, construction, Maintenance, and Engineering files as needed. Drawing types are typically, but not limited to, P&IDs, Plot Plans / Civil, Structural / Steel, Piping Plans & Sections, Isometrics, Tanks / Vessels.
- Understand, utilize, modify develop and implement numbering, filing and drafting design procedures and standards in and for use within Ergon, Inc.
- Assign and issue line numbers, valve numbers, drawing numbers and transferal of drawings both hardcopies and electronic files.
- Participate in design group meetings to discuss current and completed activities, share lessons learned, determine upcoming priorities and areas of improvement
- Provide technical drafting and design support on an as-needed basis for all departments and contractors.
- Assist Senor Designers with project development to ensure drafting / design interests are addressed.
- Attend and participate in project meetings with Senior Designers for P&ID Reviews, Model/Project review meetings, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
- Work with Senor Designers, engineers, and facility operations to complete projects in a timely and efficient manner with limited direction.
- Assist Corporate Engineering Department in maintaining updated drawing files for all plant master data.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts and collaborate closely with the Engineering Design Supervisor to support departmental objectives and overall corporate goals.
