  • Full-time or Part-time, fixed-term opportunity until 31 March 2027

  • Shape impactful rehabilitation research and build your academic profile with the John Walsh Centre for Rehabilitation Research as a Research Fellow, based in the Kolling Institute, in the Royal North Shore Hospital campus

  • Base Salary $132,533 (pro-rata) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

Join the John Walsh Centre for Rehabilitation Research at The University of Sydney and contribute to research that strengthens the University's standing as a national leader in the discipline. As a Research Fellow, you will apply and refine your expertise in research methodologies, design and delivery, contributing to impactful research both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.

Working under broad direction, you will translate your research accountabilities into meaningful outcomes, using your subject matter expertise to provide sound advice, resolve complex matters and contribute to the delivery of high-quality research. This is an opportunity to build your research profile, develop valuable academic and professional collaborations, and contribute to research with the potential to influence policy, practice and the broader community.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Conduct original research independently and collaboratively, contributing to high-quality publications, conference presentations and competitive research funding applications.

  • Build and maintain a strong research profile through peer-reviewed publications, conference and seminar presentations, and other scholarly outputs.

  • Develop research collaborations and contribute to translational research that drives knowledge and technology transfer, improved policy and practice, and broader impact across industry, the profession and the community.

  • Contribute to high-quality research activities and outputs, while providing informal mentoring and guidance to junior academics and supervising postgraduate research students or projects where appropriate.

  • Contribute to the academic and operational life of the University through administrative activities, Centre meetings, public and scholarly forums, and engagement with the University's strategic agenda.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative workplace culture by contributing expertise, supporting diversity of thought and participation, and undertaking projects and other duties appropriate to the level of the role.

About you

  • Completed PhD in the psychological sciences or related field.

  • You have proven experience conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activity in the area of severe injury such as spinal cord injury. .

  • You have significant experience in psychophysiological assessments, including electrophysiological signals like heart rate variability, electroencephalography and functional near infra-red spectroscopy.

  • Be familiar with self-report mental health assessments.

  • Be familiar with qualitative and ethnographic methodology.

  • You have experience supervising and mentoring others, and are confident contributing to a collaborative and supportive research environment.

  • You communicate effectively and deliver presentations with confidence, using strong planning and organisational skills to manage competing priorities.

  • You are proficient in computer literacy and bring a research-focused, service-oriented approach to your work.

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to be eligible to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
