The base pay scale for this position is $60,000.00 - $91,125.00. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. SUMMARY:
ARJR Research Fellows represent the continued commitment of Hospital for Special Surgery to train clinicians in the evaluation and management of patients in the musculoskeletal specialty of hip and knee arthroplasty. The goal is to provide highly motivated physicians with the clinical knowledge and research skills necessary for a successful academic clinical career in this field.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical
The fellow will spend one (1) day per week observing in the clinical setting. The clinical day can consist of either observing in the operating room or in the clinic. The fellow may also witness complex cases that occur on other days, as long as they are not covered by another ARJR fellow or resident. For the operating cases they are involved in, the fellow will be expected to participate in post-operative care as well as rounding duties.
The fellow will be expected to attend weekly case conferences, select core lectures, and biomechanics laboratory sessions. They will be expected to participate in case presentations for the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement Division. The fellow will be expected to be actively involved in the teaching of medical students and orthopedic residents during the fellowship. The fellow will also participate in the development of a video-based curriculum (through HSS EAcademy) for future orthopedic surgeons and trainees.
Research
The fellow will spend four (4) days per week performing clinical research. They will be expected to complete at least three clinical research projects leading to publication and conference acceptances. With the intent of becoming a future leader in academic arthroplasty, the fellows are expected to independently perform literature reviews, develop study hypotheses, complete detailed methodological protocols for experiments and then present his/her work to the designated research mentor for approval. The fellow is expected to complete manuscript preparations. The fellow will be expected to attend weekly meetings as well as both supervise and teach medical students and undergraduate research students. The fellow is also expected to attend one career development workshop dedicated to becoming a surgeon scientist. The fellow will also be expected to complete a research protocol for incoming fellows. This protocol must be reviewed by the ARJR Clinical Review Panel as well as Hospital for Special Surgery's Investigational Review Board. The protocol must be fully executed and approved at the conclusion of the fellowship.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Training: Doctorate (Medical Degree) preferred
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in clinical research required
- Prior Epic experience
- Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and Good Technology Practice
- Proficient use of computers and software
- Knowledge of Orthopaedic and/or Rheumatologic terminology is a plus.
This position will be allowed to go to 2 conferences in the academic year and is only for one year starting in the academic year.
