This position is part of a MRFF-funded study on implementing guidelines for traumatic brain injury rehabilitation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Acknowledgement of Country

The University of Queensland (UQ) acknowledges the Traditional Owners and their custodianship of the lands on which UQ operates. We pay our respects to their Ancestors and their descendants, who continue cultural and spiritual connections to Country. We recognise their valuable contributions to Australian and global society.

About This Opportunity

The Senior Research Assistant will support the successful delivery of a nationally funded brain injury rehabilitation research project by providing specialist research expertise and coordinating activities across all stages of the research lifecycle. Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team led by Monash University, the role engages closely with researchers, healthcare professionals, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations across Australia to drive high-quality, culturally informed research that contributes to improved rehabilitation outcomes and health equity.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the planning, coordination and delivery of research activities across all stages of the research lifecycle.

  • Contribute to study design, data collection, and the application of specialised research methodologies, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research approaches.

  • Prepare and maintain research documentation, including ethics applications, funding submissions, literature reviews and project reports.

  • Analyse and present research findings through reports, presentations, graphs and other communication materials.

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders and research team members while ensuring compliance with research protocols, safety requirements and quality standards.

About You

The University of Queensland considers that to perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld). The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent combination of education, training and/or practical experience.

  • Experience in research support, with strong knowledge of research methodologies and techniques.

  • Background in health, community services, stakeholder engagement, or advocacy (including lived experience of brain injury) will be highly regarded.

  • Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
