The Allina Health Cancer Institute (AHCI) is hiring a Regional Lead Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for our West Region.Key Position Details:
- 1.0 FTE. Monday- Friday business hours. .2 FTE Lead and .8 FTE Clinical.
- This is an inpatient/outpatient position. The role will manage solid tumor and hematology patients.
- Team includes Hematologist/Oncologists and Advanced Practice Clinicians.
- Position is located at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis
- Inpatient rounding every 6th weekend is part of the responsibilities.
Job Description:
The Regional APP lead position in AHCI is a leadership position within AHCI tasked with overseeing and coordinating the activities of nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), and other advanced practice clinicians in a given geographic region as defined by AHCI. Individuals in this role will partner closely with AHCI regional medical and operational leadership to oversee APC practice. This position will report to the AHCI regional medical director for the respective region
Provides help with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations as part of a physician/nurse team. Works within a Specialty Care team, in both inpatient and outpatient situations and can perform independently or as part of the treatment team ensuring continuity of patient care in all settings. Serves as an educator, case manager, consultant to staff and multidisciplinary health care team. As Lead, helps manage daily departmental needs, scheduling and workflow for staff. Assists management with employee performance review and coaching opportunities.
Principle Responsibilities
- Provides clinical care for patients
- Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
- Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
- Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
- Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
- Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
- Refers for specialty care when determined.
- Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Nurse Practitioner scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.
- Participates in health care team
- Promotes communication within the team and other interdisciplinary health care staff.
- Acts as resource to members of the team.
- Works with primary care team for program development.
- Acts as liaison with outside agencies as needed.
- Collaborates with hospital staff by consulting and rounding on patients if designated by the specialty.
- Other duties as assigned.
Assists AHCI leadership when in Lead Role
- Helps manage daily departmental APC needs, and workflow for APCs.
- Supervise the daily activities of APCs, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to new employees.
- Develop onboarding plans, facilitate orientation sessions, and provide ongoing support to ensure new APPs are successfully integrated into the clinical team.
- Gives feedback to regional medical director on employees for the annual review process.
- Partners with site medical director & site leadership for employee performance improvement.
- Partners with AHCI leadership team for program development as needed.
- Collaborate with AHCI leadership to develop, review, and update policies and procedures related to APC practice. Ensure that APCs adhere to these policies.
- Participate in recruitment of new APCs.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree - Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistant program.
- Must have Oncology APC experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership experience
Licenses/Certifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required upon hire ( NP)
- Certified Nurse Practitioner - American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification within specialty or Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA) - National Commission Certification of Physician Assistants within specialty required upon hire.
- MN NP/PA license required upon hire.
- Drug Enforcement Administration required upon hire
- Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
◦ BLS certification from the American Heart Association
◦ BLS certification from the American Red Cross
◦ Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)

Pay Range
Pay Range: $135,096 to $164,216 per yearThe pay described reflects the starting base pay range, assuming a full-time FTE. Your starting rate will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable).
