Full Stack Engineer
Application Deadline: 31 August 2026
Department: Data, Development & Operations
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Jersey
Reporting To: Tafadzwa Demba
Description
The Full Stack Engineer is a hands-on developer responsible for building and evolving features across Enhance Group's proprietary technology platform, Connect. The role is a lead builder on a significant new programme of platform development, working alongside the existing engineering team to extend Connect into new areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and ship full-stack features across Connect, from data model and backend logic through to user-facing screens.
- Take ownership of discrete areas of work, delivering independently within agreed architecture and standards.
- Translate designs into accurate, responsive, accessible front-end implementations.
- Break work down into deliverable increments and track progress through the team's planning process.
- Develop and maintain backend systems in Ruby on Rails, including RESTful APIs, background jobs, and workflow logic.
- Design and evolve data models in MySQL, with attention to consistency, performance, and maintainability.
- Implement robust authorisation and access-control logic, with care for data segregation and security.
- Build and consume third-party integrations, including external APIs and CRM systems.
- Build front-end applications and components in React and TypeScript, consuming and extending the platform's design system.
- Implement data visualisations and interactive analytics views.
- Maintain a high standard of usability and visual fidelity, working from design specifications and collaborating with the design partner where detail needs resolving.
- Contribute to Enhance's reporting and document-generation capabilities, building new report outputs.
- Integrate reporting into the wider platform, re-using existing calculation logic rather than duplicating it.
- Write clear, well-tested code, following the team's conventions for test-driven development and automated testing (RSpec and front-end testing frameworks).
- Participate in code review, both submitting work for review and reviewing others' contributions constructively.
- Use the team's version control, branching, and continuous-integration practices, and contribute to safe, repeatable deployment.
- Help troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the stack, escalating architectural decisions to the Head of Engineering where appropriate.
- Work closely with the Head of Engineering, the engineering team, the design partner, and colleagues across the business.
- Contribute to architectural discussions, surfacing trade-offs and flagging risks early.
- Support the controlled adoption of automation and AI-assisted capabilities where they deliver measurable value.
- Support new features through to launch, responding to user feedback.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Solid commercial experience with Ruby on Rails, including building and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Strong proficiency in modern front-end development using React and TypeScript.
- Experience with relational databases (MySQL or similar), data modelling, and query performance.
- A working discipline of automated testing (TDD, RSpec, or equivalent) and the habit of writing tested code by default.
- Comfortable working within an established codebase, respecting existing patterns and conventions rather than reinventing them.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs, including authentication, error handling, and rate considerations.
- Familiarity with Git-based workflows, code review, CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment practices.
- Experience with Agile delivery and breaking features into incremental, shippable work.
- Exposure to data visualisation or charting libraries is an advantage.
- Exposure to Node.js / NestJS or templating-based document rendering is an advantage, though not essential.
- A practical interest in AI and data-driven systems, and the judgement to assess where they genuinely add value.
- Strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with non-technical colleagues and external partners.
