Job Description:

The Opportunity

Hitachi Energy is looking for an experienced Site Manager to support the successful delivery of large-scale high-voltage substation, grid infrastructure, and power transmission projects across Spain, Europe, and international markets.

Combining strong technical expertise with proven site leadership capabilities, you will act as Hitachi Energy's senior on-site representative, overseeing subcontractors, driving health and safety performance, supporting project cost control, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and strategically important energy infrastructure projects while receiving specialist training on Hitachi Energy technologies and systems, including Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), within a global organisation at the forefront of the energy transition.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Coordinate and oversee day-to-day site activities across assigned projects.

  • Act as Hitachi Energy's primary on-site representative, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual requirements.

  • Lead site execution activities for large and complex EPC substation, transmission, and grid infrastructure projects.

  • Manage and supervise subcontractors, including civil, electrical, mechanical, and commissioning contractors, ensuring high standards of quality, productivity, and performance.

  • Coordinate site interfaces between engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and customer teams.

  • Verify completed works and ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, quality requirements, and applicable regulations.

  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks, delays, and issues affecting project delivery.

  • Develop mitigation and recovery plans where required to maintain project schedules and key milestones.

  • Provide early warning notifications to the Project Manager regarding schedule impacts, commercial risks, additional costs, and change requirements.

  • Support project financial performance through cost monitoring, estimate-to-complete (ETC) forecasting, and identification of cost-saving opportunities.

  • Manage monthly subcontractor certifications and support contract administration activities.

  • Review contractor performance and ensure site resources are aligned with project requirements.

  • Take ownership of site Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) performance, working alongside HSE specialists when assigned or independently managing HSE responsibilities where required.

  • Coordinate commissioning activities and support successful project handover to customers.

  • Support customer meetings, project reviews, inspections, and audits as required.

  • Produce daily and weekly site reports and maintain accurate project records through digital reporting systems and project management tools.

  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Hitachi Energy standards, customer expectations, and applicable local regulations.

  • Promote a strong culture of safety, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

  • Share best practices and provide guidance to less experienced site personnel where appropriate.

Your Background

  • 7–15 years of experience in site management, construction supervision, commissioning, or project delivery within the power, utilities, EPC, or electrical infrastructure sector.

  • Strong technical electrical knowledge and proven experience delivering high-voltage substations, transmission and distribution projects, renewable energy grid connections, or related power infrastructure projects.

  • Demonstrated experience managing major subcontractor packages and coordinating multidisciplinary site activities.

  • Experience leading site execution on large, complex, or multi-million-euro infrastructure projects.

  • Strong understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements within construction, industrial, or energy environments.

  • Experience with project reporting, contractor management, cost tracking, contractor certifications, and schedule monitoring.

  • Financial awareness, including estimate-to-complete forecasting, cost control, risk identification, budget monitoring, and change management.

  • Experience working with international customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and project teams.

  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Comfortable using digital reporting systems, project management tools, and adapting to new technologies and processes.

  • Fluency in both Spanish and English.

  • Willingness to travel extensively across Spain and internationally when required.

  • EU citizenship or the legal right to work within Europe.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within EPC, utilities, transmission & distribution, renewable energy, or power infrastructure projects.

  • Strong commissioning and energization experience.

  • Knowledge of GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) equipment.

  • Previous experience delivering projects across multiple European countries or international locations.

  • Experience supporting offshore wind, grid infrastructure, HVDC, or electrical transmission projects.

  • French language skills.

  • Degree or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a technically capable and hands-on Site Manager who enjoys being close to project execution and site operations while taking ownership of major infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will combine strong electrical knowledge with excellent leadership, organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills. You will be comfortable managing multiple subcontractors, coordinating international stakeholders, maintaining high safety standards, and supporting both the technical and commercial aspects of project delivery.

Most importantly, you'll be passionate about delivering complex energy infrastructure projects, developing specialist expertise, and building a long-term career within Hitachi Energy.
