Role Overview
We are now seeking an EHS Advisor to support a project as a subcontractor.
Based on site, this role will provide health and safety support to the project, working closely with project teams, site management, subcontractors, and senior operational stakeholders.
This is a visible, site-facing role suited to someone who is comfortable engaging with teams on live construction projects. You will carry out inspections, support safe systems of work, review documentation, advise on risk, investigate incidents, and help ensure that health and safety standards are consistently applied across the project.
The role will suit someone with experience in construction, M&E, building services, infrastructure, or similar project environments who is confident working with site teams and influencing safe behaviours in a practical, constructive way.
Key Responsibilities
As EHS Advisor, you will:
- Support the implementation of Designer Group’s Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures, and standards.
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and safety walks.
- Identify risks, unsafe behaviours, or non-compliance and work with site teams to close out actions.
- Support project teams with risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
- Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site inductions as required.
- Monitor PPE compliance, housekeeping, access/egress, plant, lifting operations, and general site safety standards.
- Support incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, ensuring reports are completed accurately and actions are followed through.
- Maintain health and safety records, inspection reports, permits, registers, and site documentation.
- Assist with emergency preparedness, drills, and response planning.
- Liaise with Project Managers, Construction Managers, subcontractors, and client representatives on health and safety matters.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with client and principal contractor EHS representatives, acting as the primary point of contact for health, safety, and environmental matters on assigned projects.
- Promote a positive safety culture across projects, encouraging ownership and accountability at site level.
- Advise management on opportunities for continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
- Monitor environmental performance across projects, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement in areas such as waste management and sustainability.
- Support compliance with UK health and safety legislation, client requirements, and Designer Group standards.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who can bring a practical, site-led approach to health and safety.
You should have:
- Experience in a Health & Safety, EHS Advisor, or similar role.
- Previous experience within construction, mechanical and electrical, building services, infrastructure, or industrial project environments.
- Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction safety requirements.
- Experience carrying out site inspections, audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
- Confidence reviewing RAMS, permits, lifting plans, and safe systems of work.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to positively influence site teams.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices when required.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate safety records and reports.
Qualifications

- NEBOSH Construction Certificate, NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent (essential).
- NEBOSH Environmental, IEMA Environmental Certificate, or equivalent environmental qualification (desirable).
- IOSH Membership or working towards membership (desirable).
