Description

The Marmon Group LLC

As a part of the global industrial organization Marmon Holdings—which is backed by Berkshire Hathaway—you’ll be doing things that matter, leading at every level, and winning a better way. We’re committed to making a positive impact on the world, providing you with diverse learning and working opportunities, and fostering a culture where everyone’s empowered to be their best.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President, Business Transformation will accelerate performance across Marmon Retail by helping its businesses adopt and fully leverage the capabilities, practices, and expertise available across Marmon.

This leader will serve as a strategic partner to company presidents and leadership teams, translating enterprise resources into practical solutions that advance each business's strategic priorities. The role will work closely with Marmon Centers of Excellence (COEs), including Strategy and Marketing Management (SMM), Lean, 80/20, Information Technology, and Innovation, to embed proven practices and build sustainable capability within the businesses.

Success will be measured by stronger business capability, disciplined execution, adoption of proven practices, and measurable improvement in business outcomes. The role is not intended to build a large, centralized function or add layers of resources. Instead, it will connect Marmon expertise with business needs, facilitate implementation, and strengthen ownership within each operating company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Enterprise Capability Deployment

  • Partner with company presidents and leadership teams to identify the highest-value opportunities for Marmon capabilities to improve business performance.
  • Serve as the primary connector between Marmon Retail businesses and relevant Marmon COEs, subject-matter experts, tools, and resources.
  • Translate COE methodologies and enterprise best practices into practical, business-specific approaches that can be implemented and sustained.
  • Help businesses fully leverage existing Marmon expertise and resources before adding new infrastructure or headcount.
  • Establish clear objectives, ownership, milestones, and measures of success for capability deployment initiatives.

Business Transformation and Performance Improvement

  • Lead or facilitate cross-functional transformation initiatives that improve profitable growth, margin, operational performance, customer value, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Assess business priorities, performance gaps, and execution barriers to identify where focused transformation support will create the greatest value.
  • Partner with business leaders to develop transformation roadmaps aligned with company strategy and operating priorities.
  • Create disciplined follow-through, remove barriers, and ensure improvements are embedded into normal business practices.
  • Identify opportunities to scale successful practices and share learning across Marmon Retail.

COE Integration

  • Strategy and Marketing Management (SMM): Embed strategic planning, market assessment, segmentation, customer insights, commercial excellence, growth strategy, and execution disciplines.
  • Lean: Strengthen problem-solving, process improvement, flow, productivity, quality, and continuous-improvement practices.
  • 80/20: Support fact-based customer and product prioritization, portfolio simplification, resource allocation, strategic focus, and margin improvement.
  • Information Technology: Connect business priorities with digital, systems, data, analytics, cybersecurity, and technology-adoption capabilities.
  • Innovation: Embed customer-centered innovation methods, opportunity identification, experimentation, commercialization, and new-growth practices.

Strategic Partnership and Governance

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Group President, company presidents, and senior leadership teams on transformation priorities and execution risks.
  • Maintain a clear portfolio view of major transformation initiatives, dependencies, progress, outcomes, and areas requiring leadership attention.
  • Ensure transformation work remains focused on measurable business value rather than activity or process alone.
  • Promote collaboration, transparency, and knowledge sharing across Marmon Retail businesses and Marmon COEs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, operations, finance, marketing, information technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15 or more years of progressive leadership experience in business transformation, general management, operational excellence, strategy deployment, consulting, commercial excellence, technology-enabled transformation, or enterprise change.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives across multiple businesses, divisions, or operating companies.
  • Experience applying one or more relevant disciplines, such as strategy and marketing management, Lean, 80/20, information technology, digital transformation, or innovation.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders, facilitate difficult decisions, and drive results without direct authority.
  • Experience working in a decentralized, diversified, or multi-business environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including the ability to connect transformation priorities to measurable business outcomes.

LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES

  • Enterprise perspective with the judgment to tailor solutions to individual business needs.
  • Credibility and executive presence with company presidents and senior leadership teams.
  • Practical, hands-on orientation with the ability to move from strategy to implementation.
  • Collaborative and low-ego leadership style focused on enabling others and building ownership.
  • Ability to simplify complexity, establish priorities, and create disciplined execution.
  • Learning agility, intellectual curiosity, and comfort operating through ambiguity and change.
  • Clear communication, facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder-management skills.

INDICATORS OF SUCCESS

  • Marmon Retail businesses are more effectively using Marmon COE capabilities to address strategic and operating priorities.
  • Priority practices and tools are adopted, owned, and sustained within the businesses.
  • Transformation initiatives deliver measurable improvements in growth, margin, productivity, customer value, or organizational effectiveness.
  • Leaders have stronger capability and accountability to continue the work without ongoing central support.
  • Successful practices and lessons are shared appropriately across the Marmon Retail Group.
