About The Role
We help our clients navigate legal, regulatory and international arbitration proceedings while supporting strategic decision making and public policy debates around the world. We also advise clients to make complex decisions related to energy markets, infrastructure and financing. Delivering incisive interpretation of complex economic issues has made us a global leader in this field.

FTI Consulting, a top-tier international economic advisory firm, is looking to recruit an Intern for its energy team based in Paris to support its rapid growth.

What You’ll Do

The Intern will join a team of professionals with deep expertise and experience in the infrastructure and energy sectors, gained on complex, high-stakes and sophisticated economic, financial and strategic issues. These issues span five dimensions of expertise in the infrastructure and energy sectors:

Project Finance – FTI Consulting advises on project finance matters in the context of project debt restructuring, capital raising, infrastructure M&A, and sovereign advisory – Examples:

  • Advising a group of 10 international lenders on the debt restructuring of a large independent power producer (IPP) in West Africa

  • Advising a transmission system operator (TSO) on designing a comprehensive and innovative financial strategy to finance interconnectors connecting offshore wind farms across the North Sea.

Strategy – FTI Consulting advises energy companies and governments on how to position and invest in the decarbonisation of energy systems – Examples:

  • Advising a Western European infrastructure company on the possible business models and required financial public support, for the production of renewable gas (hydrogen or methane);

  • Advising an African government on its 10-year gas import strategy, in the context of strong energy demand growth

Dispute – FTI Consulting acts as an independent economic expert in complex and high-stakes disputes to advise tribunals on energy markets issues and the quantification of damages – Examples:

  • Assessing the lost profits of a terminated hydropower plant project in Southern Europe in an investment dispute between a power company and the State

  • Assessing the economic implications of the determination of the disputed maritime border between two African countries, focusing on offshore oil and gas production

Regulation – FTI Consulting advises energy ministries, regulators and regulated companies on the design and impact of regulatory regimes applicable to electricity, gas, carbon, fuels and related markets – Examples:

  • Designing a new, comprehensive, incentive-based regulatory regime for the electricity sector over the next 12 years, in an developing country aiming to further liberalize its electricity sector

  • Assessing the quantitative impact of several proposed reforms of the EU’s carbon market on carbon emissions, carbon price, electricity price and investments in future power generation

Transaction – FTI Consulting advises investors and contracting parties on energy asset transactions and long-term energy supply and infrastructure contracts – Examples:

  • Conducting commercial due diligence on a French smart meter company for a potential international acquirer

  • Negotiating a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement for a new 400 MW power plant for the Energy Ministry of an African country

The intern will be based at FTI Consulting's central Paris office, with sporadic international travels if permitted. The intern will work within focused teams, supervised by senior professionals who will help frame analyses and transfer their expertise to help the Intern develop his/her industry understanding and analytical skills.

How You’ll Grow

We are committed to investing and supporting you in your professional development and we have developed a range of programs focused on fostering leadership, growth and development opportunities.

In practice, you will receive training and coaching on how to:

  • Apply structured thinking to systematically work through and solve complex economic, strategic, and financial problems

  • Synthesize complex information into clear, concise, and actionable insights and use storytelling to craft compelling and persuasive messages tailored to different audiences

  • Create financial models for valuation, forecasting and investment decision-making; and create market models quantifying supply and demand of commodities such as electricity, gas, CO2 markets, or emerging products such as low-carbon hydrogen

  • Develop industry-specific expertise and gain in-depth knowledge of the infrastructure sector, energy and mining markets incl. electricity, gas/LNG, CO2, critical minerals and emerging products such as biofuels, low-carbon hydrogen and derivatives (e-ammonia, e-methanol, etc.)

We promote continuous learning and development through on-the-job learning, self-guided professional development courses and certifications. Upon joining us, you will be assigned a dedicated coach to mentor, guide and support you each step of the way.

What You Will Need to Succeed

Intern will be expected to work on several strategic, economic or regulatory projects at the same time, delivering their work with increasing autonomy.

To deliver effective analyses, the successful candidates should have demonstrated a strong interest in the energy and infrastructure industry, through their degree and/or previous internships, ideally on strategic, economic, financial and/or regulatory issues in the energy sector (renewables, electricity, H2, carbon market, natural gas, oil...).

The successful candidate is further expected to possess:

  • Availability to start between January and March 2027

  • Academic background: Exceptional academic credentials in Finance, Economics, Management, and/or Engineering from a top-tier international university (Master's degree or higher)

  • Quantitative skills: A robust quantitative background to perform detailed economic and financial analyses. Knowledge in financial analysis, although not a requirement, would be positively assessed

  • Attention to detail: A high level of rigor in work execution, with attention to details

  • Adaptability: A capability to be flexible and adapt quickly to the diversity of assignments, and different types of client configurations

  • Communication skills: Strong communications skills, both orally and in written form, which will allow the candidate to present his or her work to decision-makers in an effective and convincing manner

  • Continuous improvement: A willingness to learn continuously and to face new challenges

  • The candidates must be able to speak and write fluently in English. Working knowledge of French is a plus and any additional language will be positively assessed
