BUILDING & GROUNDS MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR (AIRPORT)
"THIS POSITION IS FOR CURRENT ACTIVE CITY OF DETROIT EMPLOYEES.... to include ARPA & ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIAL SERVICE STAFF EMPLOYEES "
Under general supervision, responsible for department wide repair, operation and custodial activities of building and grounds maintenance; provide training to subordinates to monitor and maintain facilities, grounds and other essential requirements deemed necessary; and perform related work as required.
- Plan work, programs, and devise maintenance procedures.
- Supervise the work activities of several moderately large crews of workmen engaged in regular-and special buildings and grounds maintenance and custodial activities such as: Repair roofing, plaster, wood masonry and cement work, plumbing, heating, electrical and elevator installations.
- Clean and paint the interior and exterior of buildings.
- Rebuild filter beds; maintain grounds and landscaping areas, seeding, sodding, rehabilitating, and maintaining lawn areas.
- Install, design and construct fences, walkways.
- Trim, plant, spray, and caring for trees and shrubs.
- Handle snow removal on walkways and driveways.
- Develop operation and maintenance policies, practices, and standards; prepare maintenance schedules.
- Issue instructions and train subordinates in maintenance practices.
- Conduct frequent periodic inspections for cleanliness and conditions of buildings and ground areas and the operation of mechanical building equipment.
- Check work performed and institute changes in work procedures, when necessary.
- Advise subordinates on work performance and personnel problems.
- Plan and estimate costs of maintenance projects.
- Write specifications and requisition materials and equipment.
- Establish work standards, prepare recommendations for building operation and grounds maintenance budgets, and inspect work performed by contractors and others in direct correlation with grounds maintenance and equipment projects.
- Inspect work performed by contractors and others in connection with building equipment or grounds maintenance projects.
- Keep records and prepare reports on activities and employees supervised.
Qualifications (required):
- High school diploma or G.E.D (General Education Development)
- Five (5) years of experience in the supervision of buildings and ground maintenance, landscaping, repair, and custodial activities.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.
Qualifications (Preferred):
- For positions in the Airport Department, Bachelor’s degree in airport management, operations, aviation or technical background is desired.
