Basic Function: Lead a multidisciplinary team of Protection & Control (P&C), Automation, and Telecommunications Engineers responsible for the design, development, and execution of customer projects. Drive team performance to ensure safety, quality, schedule, financial, and contractual objectives are achieved while fostering innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement. The position drives operational excellence through effective planning, resource allocation, technical leadership, and customer engagement.
Key responsibilities for engineering include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of P&C, Automation, SCADA, RTU, and Telecommunications design engineers.
- Ensure engineering deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
- Provide technical direction and oversight during project execution, design reviews, and problem resolution.
- Support sales and proposal activities by providing technical expertise, estimating engineering effort, and reviewing technical solutions.
- Build strong customer relationships and participate in customer meetings, technical workshops, and design reviews.
- Monitor contractual obligations, engineering scope, risks, and change management activities.
- Ensure engineering teams are properly resourced, trained, and equipped to meet business demands.
- Drive risk identification, mitigation planning, and opportunity management across projects.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Project Management, Service, and Operations teams to support successful project execution.
- Promote technical knowledge sharing, mentoring, and engineering best practices.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering quality, productivity, standardization, and digital tools.
- Participate in workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, coaching, and employee development.
- Support engineering budget planning, resource forecasting, and operational performance objectives.
- Promote collaboration, accountability, and customer focus.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all activities adhere to Hitachi health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Promote a culture of safety and integrity across all service project phases.
- Ensure team members and subcontractors maintain required certifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related discipline.
- 8+ years of engineering experience in power systems, substation automation, protection & control, SCADA, communications, or related industries.
- 5+ years of leadership experience supervising engineering teams or technical specialists.
- Strong understanding of utility and industrial automation applications.
- Excellent communication, customer engagement, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, RTUs, Protection Relays, SCADA systems, and telecommunications networks.
- Experience supporting utility customers across North America.
- Experience managing geographically distributed engineering teams.
