The Materials & Structural Analysis Division (MSD) is a global business within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Analytical Instruments Group (AIG). MSD provides innovative microscopy, spectroscopy and microanalysis solutions, including scanning and transmission electron microscopes, DualBeam™ FIB-SEM systems, spectrometers and advanced software. These technologies enable customers across the Semiconductor, Materials science, Life sciences and research markets to translate complex questions into actionable insights.

Our Commercial Finance function provides strategic financial leadership and decision support to our fast-paced, innovative and global commercial organization. By leading activities including strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, pricing, performance management and financial close processes, while leveraging advanced analytics and reporting capabilities, the team helps shape the commercial success of MSD.
We are seeking a Commercial Finance Manager, Semiconductor and Americas to serve as a key finance partner to both the Semiconductor and Americas commercial organization. The successful candidate will partner closely with senior commercial and business leaders to translate financial and operational data into insights, improve forecast accuracy, identify growth and profitability opportunities, and drive execution against our strategic and financial objectives.
The position offers significant exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to work across functions, geographies and business areas within a dynamic global organization.
What you will do
- Lead commercial financial planning and forecasting for the Semiconductor business and Americas region, including revenue, bookings, backlog, margin, pricing, operating expenses, cash flow and other key commercial metrics.
- Own and continuously improve forecast models, providing clear visibility into business performance, risks and opportunities and ensuring timely escalation of material changes.
- Partner with Semiconductor and Americas commercial leadership to translate business trends, customer activity, market dynamics and sales execution into actionable financial insights and recommendations.
- Lead financial support for key planning and performance-management processes, including STRAP, AOP, QBR, MBR and monthly forecasting.
- Analyze revenue, bookings, backlog, funnel, pricing, product and customer mix, gross margin and other commercial performance indicators to identify opportunities to accelerate growth and improve profitability.
- Provide financial leadership around commercial decision-making, including analysis of price realization, discounting, deal economics, customer and product profitability, and commercial investments.
- Develop scenario analyses and predictive models to evaluate business opportunities, risks and strategic alternatives.
- Partner closely with Sales, Marketing, Business Units, Commercial Operations, Operations and other Finance teams to align financial objectives with commercial priorities and drive improved business outcomes.
- Leverage visualization and analytical tools such as Power BI to develop dashboards and undertake ad-hoc analyses that simplify complex information and enable faster, data-driven management decisions.
- Utilize large financial and commercial datasets to identify trends, investigate performance drivers and solve complex business problems.
- Deliver clear, concise and compelling financial presentations to senior business and finance leaders, translating complex analysis into actionable recommendations.
- Drive standardization, automation and simplification across Commercial Finance processes, reporting and analytics.
- Champion a continuous improvement and Practical Process Improvement (PPI) mindset by identifying process and control gaps and implementing scalable solutions.
- Hire, lead, coach and develop the Commercial Finance team, strengthening financial, analytical and business-partnering capabilities while building a strong pipeline of finance talent.
- Build effective relationships across a geographically dispersed, matrixed organization and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
How you will get here
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- MBA, CPA, CMA or other relevant advanced degree/certification is preferred.
Experience
- 8+ years of relevant Finance experience, with demonstrated progression in FP&A, Commercial Finance or related financial leadership roles.
- Prior experience supporting a commercial, sales or business leadership organization in a complex global environment.
- Prior people leadership experience, including coaching and developing finance talent.
- Experience supporting a global technology, capital equipment, semiconductor, life sciences or similarly complex business environment is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong experience in Commercial FP&A, including forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis and management reporting.
- Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to connect financial results to underlying commercial and operational drivers.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with senior commercial leaders, challenge assumptions constructively and influence business decisions through fact-based analysis.
- Strong understanding of commercial performance drivers including revenue, bookings, backlog, pipeline/funnel, pricing, product and customer mix, gross margin and operating expenses.
- Advanced analytical skills with experience managing and interpreting large, complex financial and operational datasets.
- Ability to move beyond reporting results to identify the drivers, implications and actions required to improve performance.
- Excellent communication and executive presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex topics and recommendations in a concise, informative and compelling manner.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global and matrixed environment.
- Demonstrated team-building and leadership skills, including the ability to lead and influence diverse teams across multiple geographies and functions.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills required; experience with Power BI strongly preferred.
- Experience with Oracle, HFM/CMR, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) or similar enterprise financial systems is preferred.
- Self-motivated, intellectually curious and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.
- Strong continuous improvement mindset with demonstrated ability to identify process and control gaps and lead improvement initiatives through Practical Process Improvement (PPI).
