Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Equipment Operator to support our electrical construction operations. The Equipment Operator will safely operate and maintain construction equipment used for electrical utility, commercial, industrial, and/or underground electrical projects.

The ideal candidate has experience operating heavy equipment, understands job-site safety requirements, can follow direction and plans, and is comfortable working outdoors in a variety of conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate equipment such as excavators, skid steers, trenchers, loaders, backhoes, forklifts, and other construction equipment as assigned.
• Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, material handling, and site preparation for electrical installations.
• Assist electrical crews with underground conduit installation, cable placement, equipment pads, vaults, and related construction activities.
• Follow project plans, specifications, grade stakes, utility markings, and instructions from supervisors.
• Inspect equipment before and after each shift and report mechanical or safety issues promptly.
• Perform basic equipment maintenance, including lubrication, fluid checks, cleaning, and minor adjustments.
• Maintain safe clearances around personnel, structures, vehicles, existing utilities, and energized electrical equipment.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable job-site procedures.
• Properly identify and work around underground utilities using required locating and excavation procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Assist with general construction duties when equipment operation is not required.
• Communicate effectively with foremen, electricians, laborers, project managers, and other team members.
• Complete required paperwork, equipment inspection forms, time sheets, and other documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating construction equipment preferred.
• Experience in electrical construction, utility construction, or underground construction is a plus.
• Ability to safely operate equipment in confined areas and around existing utilities.
• Ability to read and understand basic construction plans and site drawings.
• Knowledge of basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Valid driver's license required.
• OSHA or other applicable safety training is preferred.
• Ability to pass required background, drug, and/or driving record checks, where applicable.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and sit for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry materials and tools as required.
• Ability to enter and exit heavy equipment safely.
• Ability to work around construction noise, dust, dirt, and moving equipment.

• Conduct required pre-operation equipment inspections.
• Follow lockout/tagout and other applicable safety procedures.
• Maintain awareness of overhead and underground electrical hazards.
• Follow proper excavation and trench-safety procedures.
• Use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, equipment damage, or utility strikes.
• Maintain a safety-first approach while operating equipment around people and property.
