Arts and Sciences | Microbiology AdministrationThe Senior Research Technician will lead, conduct and assist with applied research using the iVirus cyberinfrastructure, a suite of tools supporting viral ecology and microbial ecology research, used in the Sullivan lab and by the Center of Microbiome Science (CoMS) and the broader scientific community. The Senior Research Technician in this position uses their advanced technical and operational experience in bioinformatics, microbial and viral ecology to help document each tool in the IVirus2 Suite. The Senior Research Technician will help with research by participating in a project to containerize and document the iVirus2 tool suite, build pipelines for viral sequence analysis, and deploy tools to CyVerse to improve access for researchers worldwide.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biology, or a related field.
- Working proficiency with a Linux/command-line environment
- Experience with at least one scripting/programming language (Python preferred)
- Familiarity with version control (Git/GitHub)
- Strong written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to document technical work clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Singularity, or Apptainer)
- Exposure to workflow management systems (Snakemake, Nextflow, or similar)
- Prior coursework or project experience in bioinformatics, genomics, or sequence analysis.
- Interest in viral or microbial ecology
